Found Design
This room was a true collaboration between Found Design and one spunky amazing little 5 year old girl. She knew she wanted pink walls, again Go Girl Pink by Kelley Moore, she knew she wanted brown accents, and she knew it had to be girly all the way!
We used a ruffled neutral bedsread from Urban Outfitters, all pillows were custom made with fabric purchased at the Alameda Flea market. Pom Poms were made from tissue paper.

This shabby chic sun room, uses neutral tones, a variety of textures, numerous finishes and a mix-match of furnishings to complete a totally cohesive look. The decorative pillows and distressed green chairs add color to the space, while the light half-window treatments keep the sun room feeling airy.

Pocket doors allow the multifunctional family room to become a private main floor fifth bedroom for weekend guests. Ottomans are used in lieu of a coffee table, offering extra seating as well as surface space and allowing better traffic flow.
The proportionally-sized custom wall unit with strategically placed angles and touch-latch doors (eliminating protrusions) leaves just enough functional floor space for the queen-size mattress to open comfortably.

Photo by Alexandra DeFurio. Aidan is a 12-year-old girl who lives with her father half of the time. Her parents are divorced and her father wanted his daughter to be at home in his new bachelor house. He wanted her to feel “understood” and validated as a girl entering into her teen years. The room therefore is sophisticated, yet still young and innocent. It may have “grown up” attributes such as chic English paisley wallpaper by Osborne and Little and a sassy “Like Forever” poster, but it is still comfortable enough to hang out on the flokati rug or on the vintage revamped chair.
Aidan was very involved in providing the design inspiration for the room. She had asked for a “beachy” feel and as design professionals know, what takes over in the creative process is the ideas evolve and many either are weeded out or enhanced. It was our job as designers to introduce to Aidan a world beyond Pottery Barn Kids. We incorporated her love of the ocean with a custom, mixed Benjamin Moore paint color in a beautiful turquoise blue. The turquoise color is echoed in the tufted buttons on the custom headboard and trim around the linen roman shades on the window.
Aidan wanted a hangout room for her friends. We provided extra seating by adding a vintage revamped chair accessorized with a Jonathan Adler needle point “Love” pillow and a Moroccan pouf from Shabby chic. The desk from West Elm from their Parson’s collection expresses a grown up feel accompanied with the Saarinen Tulip chair. It’s easier for Aidan to do her homework when she feels organized and clutter free.
Organization was a big factor is redesigning the room. We had to work around mementos that soon-to-be teenagers collect by the truckloads. A custom bulletin board above the desk is a great place to tack party invitations and notes from friends. Also, the small Moda dresser from Room and Board stores books, magazines and makeup stored in baskets from the Container Store.
Aidan loves her room. It is bright and cheerful, yet cheeky and fun. It has a touch of sass and a “beachy” feel. This room will grow with her until she leaves for college and then comes back as a guest. Thanks to her father who wanted her to feel special, she is able to spend half her time in a room that reflects who she is.

Shalena Smith created a cozy space for two little girls. The custom bedding and window treatments added softness to the venetian plastered walls. The room was expanded to create a built-in sitting and storage space for story-time before bedtime. Sweet Dreams for the Sweet Sisters.

When a client asks for a fun, bold design for their girls room, the possibilities are endless! We had the walls painted to resemble watercolor and marble. The black and white mirrored prints are of safari animals. The turquoise chandelier above the bed is every girls dream. We added a shag rug, but kept in neutral as well as the bedding and two turtle stools are the perfect whimsical accessory for this space.

Out of seven children, twin daughters Bellamy and Tallulah hold their own as the only girls in the bunch. When recent renovations included installing the elevator, all rooms needed to be slightly reconfigured. "Our girls are getting older so we were happy to bring in something new and redecorate", says Cortney. Now into their teens, the girls have redone their bedroom to reflect their growing sense of style and independence.
Above Tallulah's bed hangs a childhood portrait of her by Linda Mason. The upholstered bed frames are a recent purchase that add a decidedly feminine air to the space, while a brightly painted chair and striped draperies maintain a youthful punch.
Even with two designer parents, the girls are free to weigh in on what goes into their room. "It is definitely a collaboration", Cortney explains. "[Our daughter] Bellamy really enjoys designing and has a natural talent for it. All of our kids bring their own artistic sense into their spaces, after all, we want their spaces to reflect them, too."
