I don't know if it's the norm, but we had one once and I don't think it lived as long as yours. They are gorgeous when they are thriving, though.

There are two of them in different areas near here. Both have been there for at least 16 years. Both look ratty now, but beautiful when they're in bloom. Remember, this is a desert tree. It will not tolerate standing water or shade.

Thanks to both of you. It is in full sun and no standing water. I just remember it being in bloom when we had warm winters like this.
