This massive fireplace is too large for my small space. I would like to change the look by removing the dated stone, creating a built in cabinet where the large armoire is and reclaim some additional storage and living space. How should I treat the wall where the massive stone is? Make a smooth wall with a small fireplace surround? Any ideas?
