yes, a stoop is just steps outside the front door, usually wide and deep enough for a young person to sit on and still have space to walk up to the door. The only people I heard use the term stoop in California were 1st generation from east of the Rockies. My mom and dad called them the front steps, but my Mo-in-law called them a stoop. Parents were raised in California, Mo-in-law came west as an adult.

Geographical region has a lot to do with word use.

I like pic 2 with the bright looking cottage white walls and doors, matching windows between interior and outside leading door, and most of all the sensible and attractive red, orange, and brown pavers in the vestibule.

I love the idea. We live in the mountains with varying temperatures so a vestibule (or whatever you choose to call it) makes sense to me. Plus it gives you another area to introduce your decor style. The rest of your home could certainly maintain the open feeling. I like the open concept and have it in my timber frame home. But a vestibule idea ...........I think I could be a big fan.
