Sycamore Design
When the homeowners contacted Nancy Shanahan
of Sycamore Design, they wanted to enlist her expertise for one goal: to provide screening from the neighboring school and its construction projects. Little did they know, this small assignment would open the door to an
ongoing series of projects culminating in a garden that celebrates the seasons while supporting their family activities.
Both a tranquil respite and a platform for entertaining guests, these outdoor spaces are an extension of the homeowners' vibrant personalities, reaching playful functionality with the use of texture, movement, color, and even edibles. Their garden thrives today and continues to evolve with the recent addition of a cutting garden, a
sunken spa to replace their trampoline, and a fire pit to activate the area beneath their majestic oak tree.

Amy Martin Landscape Design
Location: Cohasset, MA, US
These clients wanted a landscape that had a sense of flow, of unfolding, of mysteries revealed. They love art and were open to ideas beyond the traditional themes, and so the swirls and circles of artist Sonia Delaunay, became the inspiration for this gorgeous coastal property in Cohasset, MA.
This garden was inspired by the art of Sonia Delaunay. Along the entire length of the house we made a sweeping serpentine stone wall that swerves around like a great dragon tail. In front of it are deep beds filled with Euphorbia, Lavender, Geranium, Coreopsis, Salvia, and Hakonechloa grass. They sing with blues, purples and yellows, the homeowners’ favorite colors.
This composition creates a strong flow, leading the eye down the path. Notice how the size, shape and color of the two Japanese Maples create a rich backdrop to the dazzling Hakonechloa grass and Geranium Roxanne. The slender branches of the Amelanchier tree give the composition just what it needs, a vertical line leading upward in the foreground.

Dear Garden Associates, Inc.
The colour within the garden keeps going even as the summer wanes. Cranesbill geranium (Geranium 'Rozanne') has violet blue flowers with small white centers and purple-violet veins which contrast well with the beautifully cut green leaves. This is a vigorous perennial geranium that grows in a mound to 20 inches tall. It is easy to care for and shows exceptional heat tolerance. It will flower almost non-stop from mid-May until frost with minimal burn-out in the heat of Pennsylvania summers. It works well as a "filler plant" - it can fill in beneath higher headed shrubs and perennials, covering both the empty space and the long legs of their neighbors.
