Designed with an open floor plan and layered outdoor spaces, the Onaway is a perfect cottage for narrow lakefront lots. The exterior features elements from both the Shingle and Craftsman architectural movements, creating a warm cottage feel. An open main level skillfully disguises this narrow home by using furniture arrangements and low built-ins to define each spaces’ perimeter. Every room has a view to each other as well as a view of the lake. The cottage feel of this home’s exterior is carried inside with a neutral, crisp white, and blue nautical themed palette. The kitchen features natural wood cabinetry and a long island capped by a pub height table with chairs. Above the garage, and separate from the main house, is a series of spaces for plenty of guests to spend the night. The symmetrical bunk room features custom staircases to the top bunks with drawers built in. The best views of the lakefront are found on the master bedrooms private deck, to the rear of the main house. The open floor plan continues downstairs with two large gathering spaces opening up to an outdoor covered patio complete with custom grill pit.
Robeson Design
Master Bedroom and Retreat. San Diego Interior Designer, Rebecca Robeson, designed this end of the long and narrow Bedroom to be a place her clients would look forward to coming home to. The king size bed with pair of nightstands, created a strong but soothing focal point. Rebecca added the needed softness with luxury bedding, and dreamy window treatments hung from a dark rod to compliment the pair of mirrors on either side of the bed. A decorative mirror in the center and you have perfect symmetry!

Custom Design & Construction
This South Bay project was completed in an elegant, traditional style with the intent to increase the functionality of the master suite while maintaining a timeless charm. Originally, this bathroom was cramped and crowded, so we designed a long, narrow counter space to maximize storage. For the large bedroom, we wanted to incorporate the client’s unique style into an open and spacious design. Our client has a beautiful collection of antiques which we repurposed in both the master bathroom and bedroom.
The countertops in the bathroom are made from antique marble. The tile pattern in the bathroom is subtle and compliments the Victorian-era gold accents. After the remodel, the bedroom is now a bright, inviting space with panoramic views of Los Angeles.
We loved working closely on this project with our client to create a space she felt was uniquely hers. This is a fabulous example of how the designers at Custom Design and Construction are dedicated to serving our clients so that they can love their home again.

CHALLENGE
A long narrow room with 2 off-center access doors, this master bedroom had a diagonal walkway from the hall door to a charming outside sun room. The room had no focal point or architectural interest to welcome the individuals using the bedroom.
SOLUTION
Our design team created an intimate space that is visually dynamic with creative planning, saturated color, and unique millwork.
2 separate areas in this small room are formed around the diagonal walkway:
1. A seating area in front of a window
2. A dramatic bed is positioned against the drapery wall for a comfortable & inviting sleeping area.
2 focal points for visual interest are created:
1. A drapery wall, as the backdrop to the bed
2. A custom millwork surround to “frame” the original French doors
Saturated colors (turquoise, citrine and fuchsia) create visual interest and a comfortable refuge with delightful harmony.
Eclectic furnishings, including antiques & contemporary items, are carefully positioned with the colorful fabric for a balanced composition.
