Kitchen & Bath Concepts
This Clear Lake area kitchen was designed foremost to be functional, as well as beautiful. Appliances were repositioned to create two distinct focal points, separated by a new window that brightens a previously dark area. The island features the owner's custom soapstone farm sink and a new prep sink was added in front of the new window. The kitchen also features a professional-style range by Wolf and a custom Sub-Zero refrigerator/freezer armoire cabinet. Wood-Mode custom cabinetry was designed and supplied by Kitchen & Bath Concepts. The custom hood is by Lone Star Range Hood, and the backsplash is hand-painted custom tile by ADR, over granite countertops.

Our client’s intension was to make this bathroom suite a very specialized spa retreat. She envisioned exquisite, highly crafted components and loved the colors gold and purple. We were challenged to mix contemporary, traditional and rustic features.
Also on the wish-list were a sizeable wardrobe room and a meditative loft-like retreat. Hydronic heated flooring was installed throughout. The numerous features in this project required replacement of the home’s plumbing and electrical systems. The cedar ceiling and other places in the room replicate what is found in the rest of the home. The project encompassed 400 sq. feet.
Features found at one end of the suite are new stained glass windows – designed to match to existing, a Giallo Rio slab granite platform and a Carlton clawfoot tub. The platform is banded at the floor by a mosaic of 1″ x 1″ glass tile.
Near the tub platform area is a large walnut stained vanity with Contemporary slab door fronts and shaker drawers. This is the larger of two separate vanities. Each are enhanced with hand blown artisan pendant lighting.
A custom fireplace is centrally placed as a dominant design feature. The hammered copper that surrounds the fireplace and vent pipe were crafted by a talented local tradesman. It is topped with a Café Imperial marble.
A lavishly appointed shower is the centerpiece of the bathroom suite. The many slabs of granite used on this project were chosen for the beautiful veins of quartz, purple and gold that our client adores.
Two distinct spaces flank a small vanity; the wardrobe and the loft-like Magic Room. Both precisely fulfill their intended practical and meditative purposes. A floor to ceiling wardrobe and oversized built-in dresser keep clothing, shoes and accessories organized. The dresser is topped with the same marble used atop the fireplace and inset into the wardrobe flooring.
The Magic Room is a space for resting, reading or just gazing out on the serene setting. The reading lights are Oil Rubbed Bronze. A drawer within the step up to the loft keeps reading and writing materials neatly tucked away.
Within the highly customized space, marble, granite, copper and art glass come together in a harmonious design that is organized for maximum rejuvenation that pleases our client to not end!

place architecture:design
Our clients wanted to create a room that would bring them closer to the outdoors; a room filled with natural lighting; and a venue to spotlight a modern fireplace.
Early in the design process, our clients wanted to replace their existing, outdated, and rundown screen porch, but instead decided to build an all-season sun room. The space was intended as a quiet place to read, relax, and enjoy the view.
The sunroom addition extends from the existing house and is nestled into its heavily wooded surroundings. The roof of the new structure reaches toward the sky, enabling additional light and views.
The floor-to-ceiling magnum double-hung windows with transoms, occupy the rear and side-walls. The original brick, on the fourth wall remains exposed; and provides a perfect complement to the French doors that open to the dining room and create an optimum configuration for cross-ventilation.
To continue the design philosophy for this addition place seamlessly merged natural finishes from the interior to the exterior. The Brazilian black slate, on the sunroom floor, extends to the outdoor terrace; and the stained tongue and groove, installed on the ceiling, continues through to the exterior soffit.
The room's main attraction is the suspended metal fireplace; an authentic wood-burning heat source. Its shape is a modern orb with a commanding presence. Positioned at the center of the room, toward the rear, the orb adds to the majestic interior-exterior experience.
This is the client's third project with place architecture: design. Each endeavor has been a wonderful collaboration to successfully bring this 1960s ranch-house into twenty-first century living.

Clean, contemporary white oak slab cabinets with a white Chroma Crystal White countertop. Cabinets are set off with sleek stainless steel handles. The appliances are also stainless steel. The diswasher is Bosch, the refridgerator is a Kenmore professional built-in, stainless steel. The hood is stainless and glass from Futuro, Venice model. The double oven is stainless steel from LG. The stainless wine cooler is Uline. the stainless steel built-in microwave is form GE. The irridescent glass back splash that sets off the floating bar cabinet and surrounds window is Vihara Irridescent 1 x 4 glass in Puka. Perfect for entertaining. The floors are Italian ceramic planks that look like hardwood in a driftwood color. Simply gorgeous. Lighting is recessed and kept to a minimum to maintain the crisp clean look the client was striving for. I added a pop of orange and turquoise (not seen in the photos) for pillows on a bench as well as on the accessories. Cabinet fabricator, Mark Klindt ~ www.creativewoodworks.info

Sited on a runway with sweeping views of the Colorado Rockies, the residence with attached hangar is designed to reflect the convergence of earth and sky. Stone, masonry and wood living spaces rise to a glass and aluminum hanger structure that is linked by a linear monolithic wall. The spatial orientations of the primary spaces mirror the aeronautical layout of the runway infrastructure.
The owners are passionate pilots and wanted their home to reflect the high-tech nature of their plane as well as their love for contemporary and sustainable design, utilizing natural materials in an open and warm environment. Defining the orientation of the house, the striking monolithic masonry wall with the steel framework and all-glass atrium bisect the hangar and the living quarters and allow natural light to flood the open living spaces. Sited around an open courtyard with a reflecting pool and outdoor kitchen, the master suite and main living spaces form two ‘wood box’ wings. Mature landscaping and natural materials including masonry block, wood panels, bamboo floor and ceilings, travertine tile, stained wood doors, windows and trim ground the home into its environment, while two-sided fireplaces, large glass doors and windows open the house to the spectacular western views.
Designed with high-tech and sustainable features, this home received a LEED silver certification.

Scottish Stained Glass
For most people, the idea of stained glass invokes images of the ornate and colorful windows in churches, temples, and cathedrals. While stained glass certainly does have a deep history in this religious setting, it also serves a purpose in modern residential architecture. Residential stained glass is as beautiful as it is functional. It can provide privacy for the rooms of your home where you need it the most, say your bathroom for example.
In many new neighborhoods, the homes are built closely together with not much space between them except for small side yards. If your house has a bathroom that’s located on the side of your home, the ability to retain privacy from your neighbors may cause concern. Bathroom stained glass windows offer a practical solution for this type of situation. They can prevent outsiders from seeing into your home without blocking out the natural sunlight.
Take a look at this bathroom stained glass window. Notice how you don’t have a clear view of what’s on the other side, yet the sunlight can still come through the window. This is a great example of how stained glass can provide privacy in your bathroom.

Bedroom Bedding that is all LUXURY. Donna Karan cream satin comforter with feather pillows in periwinkle blue set stage sparkly rhinestone pillow. Above the 4 poster bed, a gold gilded oval mirror keeps the lines clean without sacrificing the stunning look of this Master Bed. Iron screens fill in the casement windows flanked by matching night stands and a pair of lamps creating a perfectly symmetrical look. Robeson Design creates a beautiful Master Bedroom suite by playing up the contrast between light and dark. Dark hardwood floors, stained four poster bed with nightstands, a custom built-in chest of drawers and wood trimmed upholstered chairs set a handsome stage for creamy bedding and soft flowing window treatments. The pale cream walls hold their own as the cream stripped area rug anchors the space. Rebecca used a touch of periwinkle in the throw pillows and oversized art piece in the built-in. Custom designed iron pieces flank the windows on either side of the bed as light amber glass table lamps reflect the natural light streaming in the windows.
