D.G. Dunsmore Architect, P.C.
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in Newfield
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsNovember 10, 2014
“Mr. Dunsmore was very instrumental in the design and build of our home in Baldwinsville, NY. We decided to have Dave draw up the plans to build our dream home after talking to many professionals. We gave Dave a list of our ideas, a basic plan we found on the internet and he put together a set of plans that that went above and beyond anything we dreamed of. I would recommend him to anyone that can use his various services. Dave was easy to work with and went the extra mile to make our build a very pleasant experience.”
Patrick Flynn, Architect

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsOctober 21, 2019
“Patrick listens carefully to people to understand what they are trying to do, and then he applies his extensive architectural experience to helping them turn their ideas into reality. We wanted to expand our 100 year old house while maintaining its character, and Patrick showed us good and bad examples of additions that had been done by others in our historic neighborhood in Corning. His design for the addition complemented our existing house without overpowering it. We received an award from the neighborhood association for the addition, thanks to Patrick's design. Patrick did a great job for us, and we enjoyed working with him.”

“Johnny has a unique eye for designing dream homes that not only meet your expectations but also allows the building to settle into the landscape like it belongs there. He is knowledgeable and professional, and he can even help one begin the build process locally in the Ithaca area. I recommend setting up a consultation with him if you have land and a dream.”

“Upon purchasing a home built in the era of the 1960’s, we consulted with and hired Laura Intscher from Secret Based Design to reconfigure the space of the home which was very dated & closed off with all of the rooms separated by walls. The space needed special attention in light of the prior construction with load bearing walls which needed to be opened up for our floor plan desires. Laura was able to understand our desires and offer us a design that allowed for the rooms to be opened up, giving us a room to room flow with a more spacious desired floor plan which is exactly what we were looking for. With Laura, it was easy to communicate our wishes. Her knowledge and understanding of modern design layout and the challenges we were facing with building construction in general, allowed her to design and offer a concept that perfectly fit our wants and needs. In addition, Laura’s past experience and professional relationship with the surrounding Township’s building code department’s requirements, notwithstanding Laura’s knowledge of the processes involved was extremely helpful in obtaining permits and occupancy certificates. We consulted with Laura from start to finish on our project, including colors, furniture placement and fixtures. We would hire Laura again and have highly recommend her to our friends and family.”
D.R. Long, Architect + Associates
Architects, Architecture Firms, & Building Designers in Newfield
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMay 5, 2014
“Mr. Long took an old 1830s bank barn and made it into our home. The result is a 3,500 sq ft home that overlooks Seneca Lake in the New York State Finger Lakes region. Dan used many windows in his plan and almost every room has a view of the lake. Dan is an innovative and dynamic architect. He has a very wonderful personal style that brought our needs and desires to the forefront in his architectural plans. One could not help to notice that he is very versed in the latest building methods and materials. He does very well with cost estimates and worked with with us to provide varied courses of action so we might be better informed as to our options. Overall, our observation is that Dan Long is a true professional who treats each client and project as special no matter how big or small the job. I highly recommend Dan Long to any prospective client.”

“The Donahoe group designed our beautiful home. Seven years later they designed a downstair space for out of town guests, and now we have hired them for a garden room design. Why do we keep coming back? It's plain and simple, they take my ideas and turn them into something special! From start to finish it is Always a positive experience. Now the next generation in our family is a customer. Our son is having his house designed by the Donahoe group.”

“Chris is a top professional; innovative, thorough and extremely well organized and prepared. He is a genius on the computer with visual aids and this not only helps the client but the interior designer can also view an entire concept in virtual reality. We have worked with a number of architects and builders and, in my opinion, Chris is by far of superior ability and talent. I would recommend Chris without hesitation.”

“Walt Anderson is an architectural designer with an "Aging In Place" certification. My husband was an able-bodied working man one day and paralyzed on the left side of his body the next. We live in a split-entry home. For the three months that my husband was in the hospital, I tried without success to find a home to purchase that was either wheelchair accessible or could be made into a wheelchair accessible home. The hallways and doorways were all too narrow for a wheelchair to navigate, there were too many stairs everywhere and forget about the bathrooms! By chance, I read about "Aging in Place" certification. By searching through the internet, I found that someone in my region had that very certification--and that someone was Walt Anderson at Access Ability Design Group. Walt's specialty is designing and re-designing homes to allow elderly or disabled people to continue to live at home. He helped me redesign our home so I wouldn't have to ship my young-ish husband off to a nursing home. My first priority was in combining two back-to-back bathrooms into one bigger bathroom that was wheelchair accessible, including designing a wheelchair accessible shower area. Together with the contractor I hired, Ron Kittridge, VP of Gary Brownell, Inc., they went to the local town zoning board with Walt's architectural drawings and applied for a construction permit. Had I not hired Walt and Ron to represent me at the Town Hall, I'm sure that the permit would never have been granted because this town is so persnickety about building codes. The permit application was approved during the first review. Additionally, Walt evaluated the inside and outside of our split-entry home and told us about technology available from other local vendors for the disabled that could help my husband travel from the first floor to the second floor of our home so that he wouldn't be cooped up in the basement by himself and he could live like a normal person with the family. I was so pleased with Walt Anderson from Access Ability Design Group and Ron Kittridge from Gary Brownell, Inc., on remodeling the main bathroom that I am now turning a closet into a 1/2 bath that is not intended to be handicapped accessible and their two businesses are doing the work. Walt's designs are reasonably priced and well worth the cost, mostly because he understands building codes so the permitting process is so much faster than trying to go it alone. He works along the East Coast, so he is familiar with the codes of many towns and understands code variations from town to town. Although Walt can work with any contractor, he had an easy time working with the employees of Gary Brownell, Inc. because they were extremely professional and followed Walt's architectural designs to the letter. As for project cost, Walt's drawings were reasonable, much less than an Architect (as he is a designer) but worth every penny because they were well thought out and avoided many hassles with the Town Hall's building code enforcement department.”
