“Nothing but praise for Helman Sechrist Architecture: we are in a home we couldn’t even dream of (better than a ‘dream home’) - designed by Helman Sechrist! We had a design challenge - leaving behind two homes that we loved, and combining into 1 new home that would accommodate my family (husband and 3 kids) and my mom, ensuring space for everyone and universal accessibility. We looked at a few homes in our area, then we spent months looking at plans, and realized that nothing pre-drawn was going to work for our family. From my first conversation with Jeff Helman, I was confident that he understood our unique situation - he agreed that we would need to start from scratch. I realize now that this is how they design all their homes - designing spaces around the needs and wants of their clients, spaces that function perfectly and are beautiful! The journey was amazing - their process ensures they are aware of all the functions you want to accomplish in your home - before any plans are drawn. We met extensively with Jeff and Brad (Sechrist), they were alway patient and a pleasure to work with even when we were not at our best - ( imagine how hard a project is to coordinate between two people - then add a mom / mother-in-law to that mix). The staff at Helman Sechrist was there for us throughout the project - They helped us with the bidding process, helped us pick the right builder, made sure that the house was on the lot where it should be, and even talked us through the inevitable rough spots. I cannot express how much we love our new space, how perfectly it is working for us. The spaces that we are living in are just the right size, very spacious - but still cozy; never cavernous or cold. If you want a house that fits your family and your needs - not a house that you have to fit into - Helman Sechrist is well worth the investment.”

“Mr. Barbour and his team did a great job finishing our basement. Out of an odd-shaped, cavernous area with many items to work around, they created a family room, guest-exercise room, full bath, two large closets and a workbench/storage area. The project was on time (two months) and on budget. They were knowledgeable, easy to work with, communicated with us well and respected our choices. They cleaned up the area every day they were here and kept dust to a minimum.”

“Mark did a great job designing our home. If you want a cookie cutter house he is not the one to see. But if you want a unique home that has character Mark is the one of the best. I have had many people who have been to our home who have said WOW I love you living room and master bedroom how did you come up with these designs. Now he doesn't come cheap but I think in the end he was worth every penny. Also during the construction process he stopped by to be sure that the framers were laying everything out properly which was good because he caught a couple mistakes during the framing process.”

We did have a hiccup with the woodwork that necessitated some do-over, but I'm glad I did it. After five months in the house, I think the product is fabulous. “David was called to complete our new wall with crown mold, floor trim and painting. It was a job we couldn’t tackle since part of it was over stairs. The wall had to be prepped before painting. David was prompt and finished within 2 weeks. I also added a door to be painted and changing the hinges. He didn’t hesitate to help. Job well done! Will definitely recommend to friends.”

Their communication with us throughout the entire design and building process, whether responding to a question or providing a progress update, was professional, consistent and detailed. They also worked within the budget we had originally set. The presence of BD on site during the eighteen+ month process of building the home was invaluable. If we had never been able to step foot on site during construction it would not have been a problem, as BD and their team monitored progress on literally every inch of the home, sent regular status updates and photos, and caught any mistakes made by contractors. In our case, we actually were limited in our ability to be on site as I was on bed rest for seven months during the construction and decorating phase. Many of our friends who have built homes have told us that they needed to be on site multiple times a week, checking for mistakes and ensuring appropriate progress; for us this was not an option with my medical limitations. BD and their team didn't miss a beat, monitoring and ensuring progress and quality during this time. The final product of our home, which did not suffer in the least from our inability to be regularly on site, is a testament to their meticulous administration.
