How did you seal the cabinets so the wood grain did not show through?

we have oak cabinets and I am dying to paint them, but do not want any woodgrain to show through? Do you have a how to on how you accomplished this look. What paints did you use?

I used a product by Glidden, for the first time, called Gripper. It is an interior and exterior primer and is for smooth surfaces. Our cabinets had a nice smooth finish when I started, but I was concerned with the grain lifting and showing once I painted. With the primer and two coats of paint, no graining shows at all on mine.
