New Whirlpool electric range burning plastic smell won't fade

Purchased a new 30" freestanding Whirlpool, delivered 3 days ago. Have been doing the 'burn in' for hours each day since then, but the range and kitchen still smells of burning plastic even with windows and doors open, vent and fans going. I figured it might take a few hours to burn off, but it's been many hours over several days and still smelly. Is this normal? Do I just need to keep burning away at 500 degrees? I am about ready to return it. Have tried to contact Whirlpool and the big box store we got it from but good luck finding a real person on the phone or virtual chat.
