The Credenza: Compact Office Storage With Style
9 tips for finding or assembling the right storage table for your home workspace
It's easy to see why the credenza is a popular choice of furniture for a home office. It can store plenty of office necessities, often with cabinets, drawers, and filing compartments. And its nice long top makes a useful work surface. You can find them in all sorts of styles, from modern to traditional and made from woods to hard plastic.
You also don't need to look for a credenza in an office furniture store. You can give your office unique personality by repurposing a server or buffet as an office credenza. I have used a buffet as a credenza for my own office, and its golden worn-wood added so much character. What's your credenza style? Read on for some suggestions for working this flexible and stylish storage solution into your own creative zone.

Create a warm and inviting tone in an office.
Make your office feel less like a commercial space by giving it character through the credenza.
Because it is a large piece of furniture, it can make a statement in a handsome stained wood finish with curvy legs. Use one with a deep wood tone to get more of a library feel.

Work with your current desk but get a new look. Already have a parsons desk but want to give your office some glitz? Add a mirrored credenza. A credenza with curves and flirty appeal can turn an office into a room you want to spend more time in.
Make your own. Create your own credenza using two filing cabinets and a counter top. You can find filing cabinets at any office supply store, and pick up a counter top at a home improvement store. Ikea also has a nice selection.
Repurpose a dining buffet or server. These furniture pieces are 1) stylish and 2) able to hold lots of office items. They can possibly even hold more than an office credenza. Credenzas come in a standard 28- to 30-inch height, but these days you can find a buffet or server that is taller and wider. Just be aware of the depth and make, sure it will work in your space.
Bring in a new finish. Your credenza does not have to match the finish of your desk. If you want to brighten up an office space, add a white credenza, repeat the light finish in other areas around the room, like an area rug, lamp shades, and decor pieces; even your office chair.
TORSBY Sideboard
Here is a similar looking one to the piece used in the photo above. This one is 18 inches deep. It is a nice piece if you are looking for a more industrial look.
You can get a credenza with shelving above. The piece will lose the long table top on which you can spread out paper and such, but you will gain more storage. Sometimes they are called a hutch or open bookcase.
Get the best of both worlds by having a credenza that will give you hidden room for office supplies and an extra work space, flanked by bookcases, that will give you more storage.
Classic Lateral File Cabinet
Customize your own. Create your own credenza by fitting together numerous modular pieces. It allows you to customize the look and function! Pottery Barn and Ballard Design also have modular pieces with a less streamlined approach.

First, figure out how much room you have for it. Next, think about how much storage you need. Then, determine what kind of storage: closed cabinets with shelves, filing drawers, open book shelves?
Last, think about the tone you want to set in the room: To create warmth go for a deep wood finish; to keep it light and airy, try a light finish or white.
