Design Me By Mahlah
The theme for the design of these four bathrooms was Coastal Americana. My clients wanted classic designs that incorporated color, a coastal feel, and were fun.
The master bathroom stands out with the interesting mix of tile. We maximized the tall sloped ceiling with the glass tile accent wall behind the freestanding bath tub. A simple sandblasted "wave" glass panel separates the wet area. Shiplap walls, satin bronze fixtures, and wood details add to the beachy feel.
The three guest bathrooms, while having tile in common, each have their own unique vanities and accents. Curbless showers and frameless glass opened these rooms up to feel more spacious. The bits of blue in the floor tile lends just the right pop of blue.
Custom fabric roman shades in each room soften the look and add extra style.

This is a master bath with subtle sophistication and understated elegance. The cabinets were custom designed by Tom, with straight, simple lines, and custom built by Draper DBS of walnut, with a deep, rich brown finish. The richness of the dark cabinetry juxtaposed with the elegance of the white carrara marble on the countertop, wall and floors contributes to the room's sophistication. Ample storage is found in the large vanity and an armoire style cabinet, designed to mimic a free-standing furniture piece, that is positioned behind the door. Architectural beams placed across the vaulted ceiling bring a sense of scale to the room and invite natural light in through the skylight.

The basement batthroom is bright and open. There is plenty of room for the laundry facilities and additional cabinetry.

Modern Style and Sustainable Ethos in San Francisco's Liberty Hill Neighborhood
We were hired to overhaul the awkward spaces and poorly completed renovations prior owners had made to the master suite of this home on Liberty Hill. A complete reconfiguring of the existing spaces included conversion of one bedroom into a unique, expansive bathroom with views of downtown. By using a free-standing walnut-clad feature wall to separate the bathroom from the bedroom we were able to create a bright, open and calming master suite without the traditional divisions of spaces into rooms. This wall floats free from the ceiling and adjacent walls just as the sink floats (by means of hidden supports) free from the wall behind it. By giving away or selling most of the old fixtures and materials and making creative use of renewable or reclaimed materials, we were able to make a statement about sustainability as well as design.

Architectural Workshop
Sited on a runway with sweeping views of the Colorado Rockies, the residence with attached hangar is designed to reflect the convergence of earth and sky. Stone, masonry and wood living spaces rise to a glass and aluminum hanger structure that is linked by a linear monolithic wall. The spatial orientations of the primary spaces mirror the aeronautical layout of the runway infrastructure.
The owners are passionate pilots and wanted their home to reflect the high-tech nature of their plane as well as their love for contemporary and sustainable design, utilizing natural materials in an open and warm environment. Defining the orientation of the house, the striking monolithic masonry wall with the steel framework and all-glass atrium bisect the hangar and the living quarters and allow natural light to flood the open living spaces. Sited around an open courtyard with a reflecting pool and outdoor kitchen, the master suite and main living spaces form two ‘wood box’ wings. Mature landscaping and natural materials including masonry block, wood panels, bamboo floor and ceilings, travertine tile, stained wood doors, windows and trim ground the home into its environment, while two-sided fireplaces, large glass doors and windows open the house to the spectacular western views.
Designed with high-tech and sustainable features, this home received a LEED silver certification.
