Ashton Renovations
We like being creative with our projects at Ashton Renovations, and recently we completed this very interesting and unique bathroom renovation in Toronto's Regal Heights. The neighbourhood is situated on the western hill of the Davenport escarpment. It has many very large turn of the century houses, tree lined streets, and an elevation atop the Davenport escarpment that has many unparalleled views of the Toronto Skyline. The home had an industrial design, but needed repairs to the 3rd floor open concept bathroom.
The main focus of the renovation was to repair the shower area and create a closed space with privacy, yet keep an open feeling to the bathroom, as pictured below. So to achieve this, the original oak beams were kept and closed in. Atop the bathroom glass was used to close in the bathroom, but keep in the light.
The prominent characteristic kept in the renovation was the window, oak beams, and curved ceiling. Some of the features of the new bathroom included a Flextherm heated floor, Schluter shower system, temperature control system, and built-in closet.

For Model 2 we focused on a Contemporary Farmhouse style direction accenting the black and white specifications of the home. The furniture selections are a combination of rustic yet contemporary merging the best of old and new. Binding country elements with a contemporary spin, the décor blends clean lines, neutral palettes, layered textures and natural materials to create a timeless look that’s bursting with character. The overall look was completed with the use of accessories, art and rugs where we will introduce our color pallet of black, white, rustic orange and cognac leathers. Each space is designed to provide an elevated yet inviting and warming feel where potential buyers can picture themselves with their loved ones. Model 2 has spaces that we designated for kids and others were staged more adult oriented keeping the style cohesive throughout the home. Mixing rustic, traditional pieces with cleaner lines furniture and modern accents helped us strike the perfect balance of comfy and trendy Contemporary Farmhouse Style.

Dining Room
Located between the Living Room and the Kitchen is the Dining Room. As it is buried in the center of the house, it has clerestory openings that borrow daylight from the kitchen beyond. Cove lighting brightens the space, as does the accent color above the cove.

This wonderful traditional house is located on the edge of Hampton Bays and faces magnificent eastern water views. The room is flooded with early morning light so intense that medium to heavy sun screen shades were installed to filter the light diffusing but not blocking the view. A palate of neutral colors was assembled so that the bay view and beaches remained the focus of the room. The furniture plan as seen from the overhead picture divided the room into two comfortable seating areas. The large rug for budget purposes is made from broadloom carpet and detailed with a cut piled border. The large rug is the background that visually hinges the two seating groups together. Each seating group has different furniture each have a ottoman with tray serving as a coffee table. The fine metal table behind the sofa allows flowers or other object to be centrally displayed. The crimson red upholstered swivel chairs turn outward toward the scenic view. A tiered metal chandelier was hung from the highest ceiling height and adds intimacy to this large great room setting. The most important change to the architecture of the room was to remove the columns and replacement of them with a design of a series of arches integrated with the balustrade above visually creating more balance architectural appearance.

A cowhide chair and ottoman makes a statement in any style home. The comfort of this chair is as important as the masterful lines and character. It is always a conversation piece and the chair that most men would love to call their own.

Renewal Remodels and Additions
The main focus of the remodel of this 1913 Craftsman was to make sure that the remodel and addition blended with the existing.
An addition was added to the recently remodeled kitchen to add a new eating space, a mudroom and a rear entry.
An existing bedroom on the first floor was utilized to create a new staircase to the bedrooms. In order to minimize the effect of the addition, we set back the second floor addition from the front, we reduced the height of the second floor walls and created large dormers for head height.
Now complete, it is hard to tell that the almost 800 square foot second floor addition was ever done. It blends seamlessly in with the existing home.

This open plan handleless kitchen was designed for an architect, who drew the original plans for the layout as part of a contemporary new-build home project for him and his family. The new house has a very modern design with extensive use of glass throughout. The kitchen itself faces out to the garden with full-height panel doors with black surrounds that slide open entirely to bring the outside in during the summer months. To reflect the natural light, the Intuo kitchen furniture features polished glass door and drawer fronts in Lava and Fango colourways to complement the marble floor tiles that are also light-reflective.
We designed the kitchen to specification, with the main feature being a large T-shaped island in the 5.8m x 9m space. The concept behind the island’s shape was to have a full preparation and surface cooking space with the sink run behind it, while the length of the island would be used for dining and socialising, with bar stool seating in recesses on either side. Further soft-close drawers are on either side at the end. The raised Eternal Marfil worktop by Silestone is 80mm thick with square edging.
The preparation area is 3.2m wide and features a contrasting 20mm thick Eternal Marfil worktop with Shark’s nose edging to provide easy access to the stainless-steel recessed handle rails to the deep drawers at the front and sides of the island. At the centre is a Novy Panorama
PRO 90, with an integrated ventilation tower that rises when extraction is required and then retracts back into the hob’s surface when cooking has ended. For this reason, no overhead extraction was required for this kitchen. Directly beneath the hob are pull-out storage units and there are further deep drawers on either side for pans and plates.
To the left of the island are tall handleless glass-fronted cabinets within a 600mm recess, featuring a broom cupboard at one end and a Neff integrated fridge freezer at the other. A bank of Neff side-by-side cooking appliances make the central focus and include two single pyrolytic ovens, a combination microwave and an integrated coffee machine together with accessory drawers. Further storage cupboards are above and below each appliance.
The sink run is situated beneath a long rectangular picture window with a black metal surround. Directly above it is a run of glazed cabinets, all by Intuo, with black glass surrounds, with one double-height to the left of the window. The cabinets all store glassware and crockery and they are backlit to make a feature of them at night. Functional pull-out storage cupboards sit beneath the worktop, including pull-out bins, together with a 60cm integrated dishwasher on either side of the sink unit. An undermount single bowl and separate half bowl sink by Axixuno are all cladded in stone to match the pale walls and the tap is by Quooker.
The feature wall is painted in Caramel crunch by Dulux. The bar stools by Danetti were chosen by our client to complement this striking colour, and crockery was chosen to match. The pendant lights are taper by Franklite.

The new dining room uses chairs from the client’s previous home, and they are from the same set that we used in her updated kitchen. Their elegant frames pair wonderfully with the more understated table, and keeping the lines simple allows the eye to focus on the mirrored wall hanging, which is a stunner and also brought in from the previous home. This elegant French Country Masterbath project was designed and created for a client from 6 years ago. 6 years ago, Karen & Dan used us solely for window treatments. This time is was to refresh and redo 4 bathrooms in their home on as reasonably priced a budget as possible. Why? They know they are likely moving in 3-5 years, but want to sell at a great price.
Every bathroom was redesigned with careful focus on style and budget. The Masterbath was a completely gut, but reasonably priced cabinets, tub and tile were used throughout. All other bathrooms just had certain aspects changed with the most costly reno areas staying untouched.
You’d be pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the budget was for everything…give us a call to find out!
