Coates Design Architects Seattle

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMay 25, 2012
We were looking for an Architect to create a special home. We found Matthew Coates of Coates Design and spent about a year creating the home of our dreams. Matthew was professional, kept to deadlines and continued with our project until we were moved in and satisfied with our project. His experience and expertise helped us to create a signature project that was sustainable as well as a piece of art. Because Matthew is focused on communication we felt we were included in all decisions and budget considerations throughout the entire process. He and Coates Design are easy to recommend to anyone looking for professional, honest design work.

Nothing about E WORKSHOP is cliché. Having worked with Chris as collaborator and client, I am perhaps in a special place to observe that inherent to his design process are old school values that today sometimes get lost in the pace, namely loyalty and sincerity. When he re-visioned the roofline on our home it brought everything into balance, including budget and construction efficiency. With respect to design itself, materials of beauty, and partnership with you, E WORKSHOP can and will do anything of any scale for your home, from accessory to small or large remodel to new construction. If you are looking for an architecture practice with classical backbone, unremitting attention to quality, and a fresh spirit: this is it.

I needed to build a small house near my home in Seattle. I called the guys from this company. They agreed to do this for a slightly overpriced fee (however, quite acceptable). Two weeks later, they finally finished construction. And now a little about the house itself: it was originally built for my daughter (she is now studying at the university), but later I decided that it was quite suitable for renting out. So, one-room house frame of gray bricks. Roof of light red tiles. In general, it turned out to be a simple cottage with a facade from siding. The service is great, but the price, it seems to me, is a bit overpriced.

I decided to remodel my kitchen and I interviewed several contractors for that project. Legacy Team Construction gave me best quality-price ratio so I decided to go with them. Asaf and his team showed up on time and they worked hard from first day to end of the project. Asaf was very knowledgeable, honest and helpful. The communication with him was great and he informed me about everything important. The rest of the team was also phenomenal. They cleaned after themselves at the end of every working they, they were very respectful to me and my home. Everything went great and kitchen turned out beautiful. There were no hidden costs, project was finished on time and I just can't ask for more!

Thanks for doing such a beautiful job on my new kitchen! Everything you said would happen, happened as planned. Bruncuso also built a master bedroom & new closet for me that turned out very nice. Chris was easy to work with & explained the steps. Tracy was very good support for me as well when I called with a million questions. I would gladly recommend Bruncuso to anyone looking for remodeling or construction in their home, office or rental. Kudos!

Renovation time got our house ready for sale with a full remodel in the kitchen, replacement of all hard surface floors a ceiling fix from 2 leaks we’d had repaired, new railing for our stairs and various other smaller projects. They were affordable and did quality work with a professional attitude! We are using them again for projects for our new home as well!

My husband and I did a fair amount of research in order to find a local contractor that could replace our aging, second story deck. There were some challenges with the project including the old deck partially covering our septic system and requiring a design that would suit our needs. This included a dry deck since it covered the first floor patio, composite decking for low maintenance and the sheer size (500-600 sq ft). I found Adam and Laura's company, Zia Construction during the search and from the get-go, their communication was timely and detailed. This was one reason why we chose them as our deck contractor as we had a million questions. Besides purchasing a home, the deck replacement was the largest home-related purchased for us at the time and we understood that given the scope of the project, it would be costly from the size and choice of materials, alone. We did end up over budget due to some unforeseen costs for additional needed materials but I think the end product was worth it. Zia offered a comprehensive quote that was competitive with other vendors but also took the task of communicating with the City of Kent Building and Planning office for us which helped put our minds at ease. The less we had to worry about the better given that we are typically hands-on, hovering types. The project took several months to complete: the permit process took a little longer than expected due to volume, our contractor was out of town for a bit and some of our materials were on back order. Despite this, the work itself seem to go quickly with the team getting the inspections passed just as quickly. Given the stringent city requirements, this is a testament to how well-received Zia's work was by the city reps. Throughout this process, Adam maintained excellent communication with us, including weekends and we looked forward to each day's progress. My mother who lives with us was impressed with how polite and professional his team was as well. The end project is an impressive 550+ sq ft 2nd story dry deck made from quality composite decking and railing that we can't wait to enjoy and entertain on with our family and friends. We would readily recommend Zia Construction to anyone looking for a contractor for their upcoming projects. They are professional, competitively priced and very nice making them a joy to work with.

Board and Vellum designed a major kitchen remodel in our 1936 international modern home that expanded the kitchen into an adjacent bedroom. Jeff listened carefully to our vision and requirements and was a pleasure to work with. He led us to an excellent contractor and cabinet maker. The completed project fits seamlessly into the house, looks gorgeous, and is a joy to cook in and live in.

Lane Williams took our dated and very tired looking 1960’s one story, pitched roof home with a daylight basement and transformed it into a beautiful modern home with strong horizontal and vertical planes and cantilevered masses. Lane's vision for the house really came together when we decided to spend the money to expand the carport to two cars. We were thinking it might not work, but when he showed us the renderings we both just thought wow – it balanced everything out and got us a look that was spectacular. The finished house got great reactions from the neighbors, and it still thrills us when we overhear the bicyclists as they zip by saying ‘Cool House!’ http://coop15.com/images/house_shows/Enatai/Enatai2before.jpg http://coop15.com/images/house_shows/Enatai/Enatai3.jpg http://coop15.com/images/house_shows/Enatai/Enatai1.jpg
