He made specific suggestions during the building process, such as adding a window seat and using the flooring material as the seating area. Buchanan also recommended extra insulation above the garage to help the bonus room for heating. Rick provided detailed invoices that spelled out each work order and changes that were made during the construction process. Since we were out of town for some of the construction, he always sent me photos of what they were doing and stayed in constant contact. “My wife and I embarked on an in city build of our home in Asheville after falling in love with this small city and stumbling upon a rare available lot quite walkable to downtown. The year prior to this, when we were quite content to rent longterm, we went with close friends who were eager to build here on a tour of Jade Mountain built homes locally. “Thompson Properties was very accountable in the building of my home at Balsam Mountain Preserve. Even after a year when we had a bad freeze John Thompson jumped when we call for help. He drove up and assisted us understanding what you do when you have frozen pipes. He discovered why it had occurred and corrected by putting further insulation where it was required. The true problem had originated in the fact that the heated floor system did not have an anti-freeze product. This was not their installation but he was able to discover what should be done to correct this so that we would not have it happen again. Six years later and we have never had a repeat performance. I would highly advise using this group for building your home.”

“My husband and I were new to living in the Haywood County area and didn’t know any construction companies that could convert our existing car port into a single car garage. We found some contractors on the Haywood County Builders Association website and had 3 come to the house to give us bids but felt that we wanted a least one more bid. One afternoon, we were sitting at a traffic light in Waynesville when a truck pulled alongside us that had “Smoky Mountain Log Homes” printed on its side. Although we did not have a log home, we called them the next day. We discovered that they also have a division called Smoky Mountain Constructors and can do all types of construction. They were very prompt in coming out to evaluate the car port conversion, listened to our wish list and returned with a very detailed cost estimate. And they could start and finish within our time line. We thankfully decided to go with them and have referred everyone who inquires about a building contractor to Smoky Mountain Log Homes, George Blackburn and his amazing team! Because our time on the mountain was limited, it was very important for us to have the job continue on a tight schedule once building began. (The conversion included: Matching exactly the vinyl siding on our 15 year old home, adding a cement stem wall, adding walls, windows, overhead garage door, electrical & lighting both interior and exterior, dry wall, interior paint, insulation throughout both ceiling and walls, paint cement floor, install side entry door, install security cameras, etc.). Much to our delight the scheduling was tight. A worker came out almost every day. The quality of the work was unsurpassed. If my husband and I had a suggestion during construction, the Smoky Mountain Log Homes team had a “can do” attitude and accommodated each time. We even had an idea for an area inside our home and they came inside, inspected the area and came up with an even better solution! Having owned a Truss Plant, we were picky about the contractor we chose. We’ve seen too many contractors without the professionalism that we expected. We’re so very fortunate that the Smoky Mountain Log Homes truck pulled alongside us at that red traffic light!
