“We loved working with Mike! He is easy going, professional, and, above all, talented. We live in a community where homes have minimal outdoor space, but wanted the little bit of outdoor space we have to feel lush and welcoming. You might think that designing for a small yard would be easy, but the truth is that it is significantly more challenging. We spoke with Mike about the type and style of plants that we wanted and he was very skillfully able to come up with a landscape design, including hardscape, that exceeded our expectations. Mike was very hands on during the implementation stage to ensure that the final landscape was consistent with plans, and even made a few minor tweaks as necessary. Now we get compliments on our yard from neighbors (and strangers!) and we feel like we have retreated to our own private oasis at night enjoying wine on the patio. We could not be happier! Holly answered all of them as she walked me through the process. She and her team worked tirelessly in the demolition and construction phase, removing all the grass and creating beautiful berms and pathways. In addition to utilizing plants and materials that I already had, she introduced me to exciting new plants. The following year, The White Pear transformed my front yard. I love the serene Northwest/Asian atmosphere that The White Pear created!”

“Glenn Nardelli and the whole Pistils Landscape Design + Build crew were excellent. I would highly recommend this company and my wife and I plan to use them again in the future. They did a project for us last spring that included sod demo and re-grading of our yard in preparation for install of large modern raised steel retaining wall planter beds with custom architectural paver concrete steps. This was phase 1 of our two-phase backyard makeover. The design process was a fun collaboration and Glenn met with us on site multiple times to fine-tune the final plans before we broke ground. Glenn is personable, has excellent attention to detail, and really cared that the final project turned out exactly as we envisioned. The project went as planned, both time and budget. The crew was very professional and respectful of our home and neighbors. A year later, we still couldn’t be happier with the outcome. The steel retaining beds have such a clean, precise, modern look, yet the oxidized metal adds a rich, organic textural interest that makes our plants just “pop.” The end product was better than hoped for and we get tons of compliments. We’d like to take credit, but the credit truly goes to Pistils Landscape Design + Build. We look forward to our next project with you.”

“Alana and Melanie did outstanding work for us on a large-scale landscape design, planting plan, and installation for our home located in an open, woodland setting in Portland’s West Hills. The scope of the project included deck revisions, gravel pathways, planters, stairways, and five planting zones with a wide variety of perennials, shrubs and trees. The result is a stunning setting in which we’ll enjoy our outdoor space for many years to come. In addressing our project, Alana and Melanie understood our wishes for a landscape that would highlight our home’s features along with its natural setting. Throughout the process, they were always interested in and responsive to our ideas. Detailed and easy to interpret design plans and photographs of all proposed plants were provided in a very timely manner. Alana and Melanie did wonders dealing with the challenges finding lovely, habitat friendly plants that will stand up to the ever present deer who graze in our yard. They helped us plan our site and select plants suited to the new climate stressors occurring in the Pacific NW. We were invited to accompany Alana and Mel on nursery visits to view plants before purchasing, which was a lot of fun for us. On a professional level, Alana and Melanie are wonderful to work with. They were attentive to our budgetary needs, their communication with us was excellent, as was their working relationship with the contractors who installed the hardscape and plants. They are both trained as landscape architects with extensive knowledge and experience regarding landscape design. They also have a broad knowledge base covering plant varieties and growing requirements. On a personal level, they are warm and engaging, and so easy and pleasant to work with. We will continue to work with them as future projects come up and give them our highest recommendation!”

On our 1st appointment she met at our home and we shared our goals of redesigning our front yard and hopefully the backyard as well. “Donna provided us a complete redesign of our property (hardscape and landscape), helped us find a landscape contractor, and assured proper installation - front and back yards. We live in a 110-year-old house in the inner city of Portland. Donna's design struck the right balance between a clean, modern look that still complements the historic architecture of our home and neighborhood. Outstanding professional. Donna has excellent communication skills, was attentive to our aesthetic, and able to incorporate odd little suggestions we had - everything from including specific plants to designing a dog-friendly garden without a lawn. Our project included a significant amount of site work, installation of a new paver driveway, stormwater / rain garden, retaining walls, terracing, gas fire pit, deck, fencing, patio, and low-maintenance plantings.
