2. Houzz user tzkroll1 made sure to include a dedicated home office and hobby room when the family built its new house in 2018. “I spent a lot of time thinking about how I work, what I was going to use the space for and what storage needs I had,” tzkroll1 says.
The home serves as a model home for tzkroll1’s husband’s custom home building company, so lots of built-in storage keeps clutter hidden when potential clients visit. The cabinets hold files, and the large work surface allows for things to be spread out.
A variety of light sources, including undercabinet lighting and natural light, enhances the space. “I am extremely happy with my setup, and it was well worth the time I spent planning it out,” tzkroll1 says.

3. Interior designer Joni Spear of Joni Spear Interior Design runs her business from the third floor of her 100-year-old home. The well-appointed black-and-white space in Smithfield, Virginia, features Marcel Breuer’s iconic Wassily chair and an 8-foot-long antique garden table, which functions as both desk and work surface.

4. Houzz user Cinthia N has worked from home alongside her husband since 2017, when they relocated from Toronto. Their home in Canmore, Alberta, is nestled in the Rocky Mountains, and the couple set up their desks to take advantage of the spectacular view. “We simplified our lives and we are much happier now,” she says.
5. Leader Builders shared this home office that the firm built in Chicago for a musician.
6. Kitchen and bath designer Laura Andersson of Abode Design Studio works from her walk-out basement family room in Bellingham, Washington. “There are large windows along the whole west wall. I love working in a beautiful space with so much natural daylight,” she says.
A nearly 8-foot-long library table from the 1870s serves as Andersson’s desk, which she had modified with lift-up panels for extra storage. “It’s great to have a large surface to spread out client notebooks and samples,” she says.
The desk anchors the room, with other elements enhancing the space’s usability. “I pin inspiration photos on two large burlap boards on the wall behind the desk,” Andersson says. “I store files, resources and samples in the hall closet. Office supplies are in the credenzas.”

8. In Bellevue, Washington, this inspiring home office set up off the kitchen is where Ellen Weiss runs her interior design business. A colorful, midcentury-modern-inspired built-in desk and storage unit by Kerf Design gives Weiss plenty of room to work while also complementing the home’s style. Drawers and cabinets keep office supplies organized and out of view, and shelves show off decorative accessories.
9. Houzz user kbreezi recently began working from home and shared this photo of the new workspace. From what we can see, it looks like a great place to get work done.
10. Interior designer Lara Michelle runs Lara Michelle Interiors from her home in Rye Brook, New York, and she uploaded two photos of her newly designed home office. “[It’s] bright, functional and beautiful — everything you need in a home office,” she says.

12. Houzz user elizl shared a photo of her beautifully designed workspace. “I work exclusively from my home office, when not traveling,” she says. “There is a motorized panel that pops up from the desk behind my chair with a large computer screen, but I typically work from a laptop at the custom black table.”
