9. Let the Light In
An office space at the top of a landing in a Hillsborough, California, remodeled home takes advantage of natural light from large windows and skylights, as well as illumination from a modern ceiling fixture. Though the desk doesn’t face windows, a swivel chair allows for turning to take in the view. TRG Architecture + Interior Design gave the office pale flooring and a white desk and chair to add to the airy feel. There’s storage in the desk and built-in cabinet above.

7. Dark and Moody
Deep blue-green cabinetry combines with a wood desk and caramel-colored chair and the cabinet’s wood countertop in this home office in a new-build home in Encinitas, California, designed by M Prevost Design. The rich color scheme is dark and moody in this photo, but light from an overhead fixture and a window, which aren’t seen here, provide plenty of light. The built-in cabinet behind the desk is illuminated by three picture lights in brass tones that coordinate with the overhead fixture.

4. Light and Views
This petite corner in a contemporary home designed by McCollum Studio Architects in the Austin, Texas, suburb of West Lake Hills has a sleek wood desk with a stone counter and streamlined storage. 3. Warm Hug
A couple who wanted to be closer to their grown kids and grandchildren moved to a suburb west of Minneapolis, where they built a custom ranch-style home next to a golf course.
The husband’s office sits at the end of the hall from the home’s primary suite and, as in the rest of the house, designer Laura Tays of design-build firm Tays & Co Design Studios used warm and luxurious natural materials along with custom details such as built-in shelving and storage cabinetry. She used Fairview Taupe paint from Benjamin Moore on the walls and ceiling, then added a cocoa-colored carpet, custom metal desk and custom cabinets made of walnut, whitewashed white oak and pine.

2. Storage Galore
Ample storage, layers of lighting and custom casework make this Gainesville, Florida, home office a standout space. There’s a mix of open and closed, painted and unpainted cabinetry, including drawers under the nook bench. The designers aced the lighting plan, which includes multiple pendants over the desk, a desk lamp and task lighting on the cabinetry behind and across from the desk, which also faces a window for natural light (not seen in this photo).

This office in a newly constructed home in the Hamptons designed by Betty Wasserman Art & Interiors makes the most of the oceanfront view through sliding glass doors that lead to a patio. Traversing drapes can be drawn when the gorgeous view gets too distracting and work needs to be done. Wasserman used soft gray furnishings, a rug and flooring to act as a monochromatic neutral, keeping the blue-water view as the main focus. Fluted surfaces on the desk and storage credenza coordinate with a paneled accent wall.
