This project received the award for the 2010 CT Homebuilder's Association Best Bathroom Renovation. It features a 5500 pound solid boulder bathtub, radius glass block shower with two walls covered in book matched full slabs of marble, and reclaimed wide board rustic white oak floors installed over hydronic radiant heat in the concrete floor slab. This bathroom also incorporates a great deal of salvage and reclaimed materials including the 1800's piano legs which were used to create the vanity, an antique cherry corner cabinet was built into the wainscot paneling, chestnut barn timbers were added for effect and also serve as a channel to deliver water supply to the shower via a rain shower head and to the tub via a Kohler laminar flow tub filler. The entire addition was built with 2x8 wall framing and has been filled with full cavity open cell spray foam. The frost walls and floor slab were insulated with 2" R-10 EPS to provide a complete thermal break from the exterior climate. Radiant heat was poured into the floor slab and wraps the lower 3rd of the tub which is below the floor in order to keep the thermal mass hot. Marvin Ultimate double hung windows were used throughout. Another unusual detail is the Corten ceiling panels that were applied to the vaulted ceiling. Each Corten corrugated steel panel was propped up in a field and sprayed with a 50/50 solution of vinegar and hydrogen peroxide for approx. 4 weeks to accelerate the rust process until the desired effect was achieved. Then panels were then cleaned and coated with 4 coats of matte finish polyurethane to seal the finished product. The results are stunning and look incredible next to a hand made metal and blown glass chandelier.

In this remodel of a long and narrow bathroom we created a tile box to separate the wet area from the rest of the bathroom. This allowed us to install a mahogany wood floor in the bathroom and include a large tub and an ample shower in a rather small space.

GP Martin Photography,
This bathroom was a design for a client of mine and was her inspiration for the materials and colors of this wonderful bathroom. Her ideas and choice of materials only enhanced the already beautiful and airy design of the Master Bathroom. Celeste Randolph is an interior designer for Ambiance Interiors in Palo Alto, Ca.

Leave a legacy. Reminiscent of Tuscan villas and country homes that dot the lush Italian countryside, this enduring European-style design features a lush brick courtyard with fountain, a stucco and stone exterior and a classic clay tile roof. Roman arches, arched windows, limestone accents and exterior columns add to its timeless and traditional appeal.
The equally distinctive first floor features a heart-of-the-home kitchen with a barrel-vaulted ceiling covering a large central island and a sitting/hearth room with fireplace. Also featured are a formal dining room, a large living room with a beamed and sloped ceiling and adjacent screened-in porch and a handy pantry or sewing room. Rounding out the first-floor offerings are an exercise room and a large master bedroom suite with his-and-hers closets. A covered terrace off the master bedroom offers a private getaway. Other nearby outdoor spaces include a large pergola and terrace and twin two-car garages.
The spacious lower-level includes a billiards area, home theater, a hearth room with fireplace that opens out into a spacious patio, a handy kitchenette and two additional bedroom suites. You’ll also find a nearby playroom/bunk room and adjacent laundry.

Modern Master Bathroom with floating vanities. Square aperture adjustable recessed lighting was used to complement the rectilinear interiors. A custom LED strip light and mirror detail provides soft illumination for anyone standing at the vanity and looking in the mirror.

The homeowners felt their shower was too small, so it was a priority to expand it. The new shower features blue mosaic tile, oil rubbed bronze fixtures, a shower niche for storage and a bench with turquoise tile that matches the rest of the space and provides convenience. The pebble flooring contributes to the spa-like aesthetic of the bathroom.

Luxurious Bathroom
This simple but sumptuous master bath was part of the addition to this old house. Like the other new spaces added to this 1920s Spanish-style estate, we designed the architecture as well as the interiors. The barrel vaulted ceiling creates a feeling of warmth and intimacy in this large and beautifully tiled bathroom. We also designed the his and her sinks and custom made them for this room.

The master bathroom in this version of the Remington, built in Chapel Hill, NC, features: his and hers vanities, a custom tile surround soaking tub placed beneath a barrel vault ceiling design, a vaulted ceiling, tile flooring, and over-sized shower.
You'll love the view from this bathtub: a breathtaking three sided fireplace in the master bedroom is visible from every angle of the suite.

This project began as a home remodeling idea to use barrel vaulted ceilings for a new entry and living/family room or four-season porch and home office addition. Custom round steel ceiling frames were required to make it happen, with recessed down lights added to the curved ceiling. Curved specialty windows accented the curved ceiling. A similar style was added to the home’s entryway, which enhanced the home’s curb appeal.
The four-season porch included energy-saving Low-E windows, with a large home office below. Guests can enjoy the view of the Edina Valley, a Minneapolis landmark.
Interior and exterior photos in this project help define the scope of the project. Two garages were added during remodeling, and are featured on another Bridgewater project page.
