The Holland Companies
Architectural Designers in Boston
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsFebruary 5, 2017
“It’s rare to meet a builder that not only “talks the talk” but also “walks the walk.” The Holland Companies were on time, on budget, and delivered a product superior to the initial quality promised. Basically the opposite of what typically happens. We would entrust our next project with them only.”

“Charles is an excellent architect whose advice and expertise were invaluable. He was very thorough and attentive to details for every aspect of our project. He was very easy to work with and always made himself available to answer any and all of our questions. We would definitely highly recommend him to anyone looking for a good, quality architect with high standards and integrity.”
Monica MacKenzie Design Build
Architectural Designers in Boston
Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsOctober 29, 2012
“Working with Monica was a pleasure from start to finish. She has both the knowledge of a general contractor and the vision of an interior designer, so the finished product was kept in mind from the very beginning. Monica’s attention to detail never wavered throughout the arduous process of re-configuring an antique cape, and she was able to help us turn many would-be issues into bonus features of the finished product. She was extremely attentive to our thoughts and ideas and accommodating of our needs throughout the renovation. We couldn’t have done it without her!”
The Curtice Group Inc

“I'm happy to give Scott Curtice my strongest positive recommendation. Our project went quite smoothly, staying on schedule thanks to the fact that my office is in the house and Scott's commitment to providing a foreman. This enabled us to make decisions quickly and address problems promptly. Scott and his crew showed a lot of creativity in meeting our requirement to stay in the house during the renovation, to the extent of setting up a temporary kitchen and shower in the basement. In the end, we only had to be out of the house for about a week. He was also very good about coordinating with our architect and the cabinetmaker that we selected ourselves. Having heard a few horror stories of renovation cost overruns, I think we also did well in this respect. Our final figure was about 10% more than the initial estimate due to the kind of unforeseen issues that can be expected on any such project, along with a few changes that we ordered. The level of detail Scott provides in his constantly updated spreadsheet also helped us to make some decisions that reduced our cost.”
Sage Builders LLC

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 26, 2013
“Sage Builders were the general contractors for several projects in our home in particular for the large and complex retrofitting of a paneled library with coffered ceiling, purpose built sliding French doors, remodeled fireplace and special lighting. The project required the coordination of a variety of providers and contractors, including architects, carpenters, millwork specialists, decorators, lighting specialists, AV professionals, alarm system providers, painters, electricians, stone cutters, etc... Sage did a terrific job in guiding us throughout the process, they were reliable, available and present whenever needed, trustworthy, honest and meticulous in their follow through. They provided us with helpful and sensible advice borne of experience, were generous with their time and went out of their way to get the results we were seeking. They were always responsive, communicative, reasonable and a true pleasure to deal with. It was an expensive project but we are very pleased with the results as Sage was able to understand and interpret our desires extremely well. We would recommend them wholeheartedly and without reservations.”

“A talented group of professionals that have worked on a remodel of the facade/elevation of our house and then a complete gut and remodel of our Masterbath and bedroom. Creative, kind, focused, and incredibly talented. They were so easy to work with and a pleasure to see each day as well. We were happy when the job was completed (on schedule) but sad to see them go because they were such nice people.”

“We have worked with Thomas Buckborough and his group for a number of projects since 1995. In each case, whether it was a large remodel or a small repair, he has been attentive, thorough, thoughtful, and a pleasure to work with. His work is beautiful. His commitment to his clients does not end with the completion of the project; he consistently is available for tweaks, repairs, and questions. We recommend him with enthusiasm and without reservation.”
Honeycomb Design + Build, LLC

Average rating: 5 out of 5 starsMarch 28, 2019
“I have a small home that was built in 1940. The space was very blocked off (separate living spaces divided by walls with doors.) I wanted to have an open kitchen/dining room and living room and wanted to be able to use my space more efficiently. Also, my chimney and oven were in the middle of the space and I wanted to keep them in the same spot to avoid a complicated (and potentially costly) relocation of gas lines and flue/gas ventilation. I felt like I needed the help of designer to reconfigure the space. I was impressed with the one stop shop approach that Honeycomb Design Build had to offer. I had heard great things about Resa from a friend who worked with her on a commercial construction project. The design they came up with was awesome, and something I would never have thought of on my own. The fireplace and stove/oven turned out to be the coolest part of the layout. Dave and his team constructed seamless floating shelves that wrap around the chimney creating a great focal point. The combination of wood, brick, stainless steel and variations of teal make it a dream space for me. I was nervous about doing a renovation after hearing horror stories from friends and family about bad contractors. But my experience Honeycomb Design Build turned out great! I would definitely recommend Honeycomb Design Build.”
