“We would like to highly recommend Serge van der Voo Landscapes! We hired Serge and his team to do a completely new landscape and hardscape at our historic home on Ann Arbor's Old West Side. The work was extensive and Serge was very flexible in agreeing to break it into three phases to be accomplished over two years. The plan he developed was beautiful. He first listened to our likes and dislikes and got to know us. He spent a lot of time at the house and around the neighborhood. The plan he developed was meant to represent the era of the home, this was reflected in the selection of plantings and the overall design. The crews that Serge employed were prompt and courteous and cleaned up each night. Serge went out of his way to update us as the work progressed and to educate us about the care of each planting. Once the work was completed Serge continued to come back and check on things. If there were plantings that did not work as planned Serge explained our options and helped from there. “I originally contacted Karleen Shafer to help me with a design for my small backyard, which was used for parking, and completely overgrown with weeds and concrete debris from a torn down garage. Knowing nothing about landscaping or planting, Karleen provided me with two designs and photos of plantings that would work well for an inexperienced gardner. She was attentive to my requirements: a space to park two cars, a patio for entertaining, space for a gas grill, something aesthetically pleasing, and plantings that would be easy for me to maintain. I was so happy with the final design that I also had Karleen and her crew do the installation. This was a late fall installation, and her crew worked around rainy and cold weather to complete the project. She and her crew were respectful and trustworthy. The final layout was beautiful - a flagstone patio for entertaining, a gravel pathway to the tool shed, and a variety of tall grasses, bushes and plants integrated with the hardscaping. I received tons of compliments from family, friends, and neighbors! It was a total transformation and I have enjoyed entertaining and maintaining it for several years now. Karleen stayed in touch after the installation, making sure to educate me on preparing for the cold months (e.g., cutting the grasses back) and what to do in the Spring. All-in-all, an excellent investment with an excellent company with a friendly, hands-on and committed group of landscape professionals! Would hire this company again in a heart beat!
