“I enjoy doing my own gardening, but needed help creating a cohesive design for my 1-acre lawn. Susan of The Crafted Garden evaluated my property, listened to my ideas, and then created a landscape design that could be implemented in stages. She provided drawings, including transparencies over pictures of our existing garden to help us envision the change. She consulted us at each stage, telling us what to expect in costs of labor and plant material. With Susan's crew, we began in Fall '13, altering the site's hard scape, then fine-tuned the beds and planted this spring, completing the first and largest phase of the work. Susan reoriented the approach to our home, widened beds, and created a planting scheme that tied the different areas together, incorporating native species that provide good habitats for birds. Susan and her crew were prompt, worked very quickly, and left the site clean. They accomplished in two weekends what would have taken me 6 months. Susan provided information about what we needed to do to keep our plants healthy -- watering schedules, mulch, etc. it has been exciting to see the the plants flourish and to envision the garden's continuing maturity. (I have inadequate pictures taken with my phone, but will post pictures at another date.) We had a positive experience and I learned a great deal about the process. When we began, I was focused on the plants to be chosen. But it was Susan's careful preparation -- curving a walk here, arcing a bed there -- that showcased our home's best features, and set the stage for a garden that offers us color and lovely scent throughout the seasons. Based on my experience, I highly recommend Susan as a creative and knowledgeable partner.”

“MasterPlan provided me with a complete landscape design for my backyard patio, pool area and deck. From the time Josh and I first met to discuss the project through the end of the construction, Josh was nothing but professional, knowledgeable and accessible. Josh provided a state of the art 3D digital proposal for my patio, deck and pool area and the final product exceeded my expectations. He oversaw all aspects of the project including obtaining the architectural drawings, filing for permits, attending a variance hearing and supervising the multiple subcontractors on the project. Josh was available for any questions or concerns that arose and checked in with me frequently for my feedback and to keep me up to date with scheduling. Josh has a welcome attention to detail and pointed out small changes that made a big difference. The final product is an impressive and welcoming backyard oasis that my family and friends will enjoy for many years. I have used designers and subcontractors on multiple occasions and this has been , by far, my best experience. I highly recommend Josh and MasterPlan to anyone considering an outdoor project. “I can't say enough about Tilly. I am an interior designer that works with some of the most high end landscape design firms in Chicago. This project was on a tight budget so decided to give Tilly a try. We were a little nervous because Tilly was a fraction of some of the other prices, but I can easily say they do it all with just as much thought and care as those other guys. Our designer Stephen really got to know our needs and his thoughtful design clearly reflected that. I couldn't get over the quality of the final design materials we ended up with at the end of the process. Plants, hardscape, and a detailed plan and information on it all. Chicago is not an easy climate for landscaping and we were given only plants that thrived in our space and not someone is California's. The experience was a steal and triple the value of what you pay - I can't wait to use Tilly again! - Sara”

His designs are not the usual "bushes lined up against the house" and he thought about how the garden changes through the season, which means every month brings a new color and some lovely surprises.
