“Debbie Friedman came to our home, listened to our unusual vision for a limited maintenance tropical garden in the DC metro area, researched the plants, provided the design, accommodated our critiques (didn't like certain scents, didn't want prickly leaves), updated design, provided recommendations for contractors, and suggestions for locations to purchase plants to keep costs down. “I so enjoyed working with each member of the team at GardenWise, throughout our project -- good listeners, professional, kind, and responsive, not to mention talented and creative designers with excellent problem-solving approach, and terrific craftsmen. Estimates and budgets were accurate. The attention to detail and commitment to quality were superb - - even re-doing something I had said we "could live with" but they could not! That really, really impressed me. The project included a new driveway, lots of stone wall work, a new patio, water feature, and several new and renovated planting beds. I am eager to see how the plants 'return" in the coming summer and how they mature to fulfill the envisioned design.”

“Clare, the owner and designer is a gifted artist and seasoned professional. She'll create a design that is unique to you and your home. We've hired her company several times over the last 10 years to do different projects (on two different homes) and we've never been disappointed. Their prices are reasonable and the quality is excellent. She stands behind her work and will come back if you've got a concern. Her #2, Jimmy, is awesome. You'll see that she's less expensive than some and more than others. The big difference for us was in the quality of the work. There are a lot of contractors out there who will give you a "Home Depot" job for a low price. But, if you want something that stands out and that you can love forever, then go with Land Art.”

“Jennifer recently worked with me to redesign my garden to include a pool and travertine patio surrounded by four raised flower beds. I found her on the internet, and engaged her after an initial conference when it was clear that she had the imagination and skill to work within the constraints of a historic house and a hardheaded gardener determined to hang onto many heritage plants. While there were many subsequent tweaks, we never really varied much from her initial design, because she listened so well that her first design incorporated all that I was looking for. Her design, her selection of materials, and her ability to work everything I wanted to save from my old garden into a rational and symmetrical but informal garden plan are, I am certain, going to win her another award. I then engaged Jen to supervise construction, and that was a good move. She was constantly in touch with the various contractors, often working alongside. When problems arose, she had several solutions ready to present before she told me about the problem. Inevitably things came up that had not been included in the initial budget she had prepared so carefully, but she made me aware all along of choices and their costs, so I never felt sandbagged. Best of all, she stuck to her estimate of major construction costs even when the actual cost must have far exceeded the budgeted amount. I could never have dealt with the various trades as well as she did, lacking both time and knowledge. While I value her design skills, I must say that without her supervision, I know this project would have cost far more, taken much longer, and probably not turned out as well. Jen is now working with me on the interior of the pool house. I simply do not have the time to shop during tax season, and am finding it wonderful to have her do the leg work so that my involvement is limited to choosing from alternatives and writing checks. The pictures she creates enable me to envision choices so easily that I'm looking forward to working with her on other interior projects. At least four of my friends are planning to consult with Jen even though my project is far from finished- my garden in winter is not much to see! I recommend her wholeheartedly. Not only is she skillful- she is delightful to work with. I will post a photo when the project is completed later this year.”
