The Office Niche:
The new home office is conveniently located in what used to be a closet.
Bathroom Door:
The old bathroom door opened outward. A Home Depot shower door retrofitted as pocket door with a custom door handle makes the space more functional. To save room a niche is cut into the wall so that the door can fit into the pocket, minimizing the overall door opening.

This was a small hallway closet made into a functional space-conscious desk area. We used really organic and urban grasscloth wall paper to add depth to the space from the ceiling to the baseboard. In small spaces, simplicity is KEY! A single "sea-urchin" lamp and room for your laptop is all you need! We made storage and organizational space behind the chocolate cabinet doors to avoid too much clutter!
Crooked Oak
Crooked Oak is prepared to provide you with several ideas as how to create a dedicate space in your home or apartment that is both functional and attractive yet doesn’t require much space:
Creative Closet. When designed well, any size closet can be transformed into a functional, comfortable workspace…with everything you need organized and at your fingertips…
Check out your walls! Is there an area in your house where you have several bookshelves? If you have two or more bookcases against a small wall space, you can create a desk that slides in-between the shelves and neatly contains a printer, computer, file drawers, etc. Also be sure to keep in mind any unused areas of your home. One surprising place to create an office nook is the second landing on the staircase where you could have a built-in desk created for a dedicated work space.
Consider A Wall-Bed. Turn your guest room into an office by installing a handcrafted wall-bed that can be built stylishly so the room can serve as a home office when guests are away. The desk, shelves and cabinets can be used for your office needs on one side; the other can be used for guests’ clothes, etc. Or use space in your master bedroom and have a handcrafted desk built to your specifications that fits nicely near a window for natural light.
There are as many home office set-ups as there are spaces, especially if you go with a custom design. Crooked Oak handcrafts every piece of furniture and offers the highest quality and customer service available.

We are proud to have been named Henredon Interior Design Studio’s 2011 Featured Designer. As such, we were asked to create a vignette. Our concept is as follows:
We designed this space for a fictitious college professor living in a very small New York apartment. Since the space is limited, it must be multipurpose and have plenty of storage for his books. He reads, watches TV, and hosts small dinner parties in his home. Bold, dark, and warm describes the Italian wallpaper which gives the petite room much needed “punch.” The fabulous upholstered bookcases provide texture and architecture, while the perforated stainless and glass cylinder adds sculpture and sparkle. Defining the space, the mesh drapery is a backdrop to the sphere-topped storage columns. The clever bookcases integrated around the sofa are a place for books and treasures found abroad. Central to the space, the harvest table is a very flexible piece: need a slim sofa table? Both sides fold down. Invite six for dinner? No problem! Here, it functions as a library table. We were hired to transform this small apartment into a tranquil pied-a-terre. Perched atop an historic landmark, the unit features unparalleled views of Manhattan. However, the layout was awkward and the finishes dated. One of the many challenges was staying within the confines of the numerous structural columns and plumbing risers.
A larger foyer was created by removing a cumbersome millwork unit. Folding glass panels open the new kitchen to the view. Two, discrete bathrooms were created from one large one. All mechanical and electrical systems were updated, and each of the windows replaced to meet stringent preservation requirements. A neutral palette for the interiors was chosen to bring a sense of calm to the urban surroundings.
The project was a collaboration between James Dixon Architect PC and Powell & Bonnell Decorators

Maximizing every inch of space, a corner of this NYC apartment becomes an efficient workspace with the addition of a practical and seamless custom built in office nook featuring custom designed storage and strategically placed electrical outlets. While incorporating decorative open spaces, the all custom office cabinetry and built in work space conceals filing, printer, shelving, an ugly column in the corner, and even storage for kitchen linens and extra items.

Waypoint Living Spaces
The remodel of this Tudor City apartment transformed the bedroom and office areas into ultra functional living spaces. A partition using Waypoint's beautiful Maple Honey finish, separates the bedroom from the office area, and allows for plenty of storage on both sides.

My client a successful banker, ask for designs for his dining niche, study /guest room, master bedroom and bath. The room used as guest room/ study is small space approximately 11 feet by 11 feet. The room has cherry wood and green painted book shelving. files along one wall, a sleep sofa in front of the window wall covered in a soft light grey chenille fabric, and what was formally a small closet hides a pull out desk and TV. The room has a warm neutral oat meal color looped woven wall to wall wool carpeting and the walls are covered in a Donghia medium grey grass cloth. One shade from Conrad Shades spans and covers the two windows behind the sleep sofa.

StudioLAB
A young couple with three small children purchased this full floor loft in Tribeca in need of a gut renovation. The existing apartment was plagued with awkward spaces, limited natural light and an outdated décor. It was also lacking the required third child’s bedroom desperately needed for their newly expanded family. StudioLAB aimed for a fluid open-plan layout in the larger public spaces while creating smaller, tighter quarters in the rear private spaces to satisfy the family’s programmatic wishes. 3 small children’s bedrooms were carved out of the rear lower level connected by a communal playroom and a shared kid’s bathroom. Upstairs, the master bedroom and master bathroom float above the kid’s rooms on a mezzanine accessed by a newly built staircase. Ample new storage was built underneath the staircase as an extension of the open kitchen and dining areas. A custom pull out drawer containing the food and water bowls was installed for the family’s two dogs to be hidden away out of site when not in use. All wall surfaces, existing and new, were limited to a bright but warm white finish to create a seamless integration in the ceiling and wall structures allowing the spatial progression of the space and sculptural quality of the midcentury modern furniture pieces and colorful original artwork, painted by the wife’s brother, to enhance the space. The existing tin ceiling was left in the living room to maximize ceiling heights and remain a reminder of the historical details of the original construction. A new central AC system was added with an exposed cylindrical duct running along the long living room wall. A small office nook was built next to the elevator tucked away to be out of site.
