“Dan was an amazing resource for my house renovation, helping me at all stages of the project. He assisted me in figuring out the financing and then worked closely with me in an iterative way, going through various options to create the plans for what ultimately became my dream home. Dan's value was in combining a keen artistic eye with great structural and engineering knowledge as well a through knowledge of the permitting process and economics of house renovations. He also introduced me to a terrific contractor who proved invaluable and well as vendors and suppliers who were great. Renovating a house can a daunting and sometimes scary process, but Dan's good counsel, sound advice, first-hand experience, and architectural skills made the process exciting, fulfilling, and even fun. She was an active listener as well as a creative collaborator. She was able to blend our ideas for a home with the skill and knowledge needed to develop building plans. The end result is a stunning as well as functional home overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. We met frequently with Candace Smith on the building site and in her office to ensure that the house would meet our expectations which included placing the house in just the right location to maximize the views. Additionally, she joined us in interviewing prospective builders and worked with him throughout the construction process. “I hired Carolyn to design and create plans for a kitchen renovation. We ended up making modifications to most of our first floor and the finished area of our basement. Carolyn was so easy to work with. We really enjoyed the design phase with her, and she brought a sense of calm and problem solving when there was a challenge with our renovation.
