“My wife and I decided to explore a major renovation of our house. Hiring Pethel Designs to help us begin the process was a great decision! Hunter Pethel was extremely creative in different designs and approaches that gave us options to consider to accomplish our goals. We wanted a top quality design and value. We got both. Hunter gave us some more economical options that did not compromise the quality of the final product. With his many years of experience, Hunter introduced us to options we would have never thought of. The experience was outstanding and we would highly recommend Pethel Designs for your next project, whether a renovation or new construction.”

“Chavo Patino amazed my wife and I with the creativity and intelligence he put into designing our dream home. We knew he could design something modern and simple, but after we moved in, we then saw how well all the pieces fit together. Having a lake in your back yard naturally makes this house relaxing and comfortable. At the same time, he found a way to fit three bedrooms, 2 ½ baths, plus an office into 2200 sq feet without losing that sense of comfort. We wanted an open living, dining, kitchen area, but the dramatic open space floored us when we saw the finished space. He could see the value of arranging the food prep area so that it faces the back of the house. I never get tired of that view while preparing dinner. Bedrooms 2 and 3 are on the opposite side of the house from the master suite which gives us some added privacy and quiet. He spent time to look closely at the topography of the building site so that the design worked with the land, not against it. The downward slope gave us a chance for a walk out basement, but he could see the opportunity to make that into a finished basement gym with windows and a separate door to the lake. He extended the roof line to cover the first 6 feet of the rear deck area. This gives us plenty of sun in the morning, while offering outdoor natural shade in the hot afternoons. This little added design idea also saves 20% or more off our cooling and heating bill. Chavo’s design process was very helpful. He started with the elements we wanted in this house and turned those into early concepts. I am not sure if he can do this will all his clients but he drove up to Virginia to meet with us to go over these drafts in person. It really helped us to get to the next step which was to combine elements of different concepts. After a number of edits and a few skype meetings, we had the final plan. I can’t recommend Chavo enough. He comes from a family of architects which was clearly evident over time. He knew how to work with the local engineering company and our builder to make sure our ideas were not edited out due to local codes or “we usually don’t do it this way”. If you want a custom home to truly reflect who you are, Chavo will be patient, very responsive and I am sure he will amaze you as well with the final product. Seeing is believing so I hope he posted some photos of the house on this website. Pete MacMullan”

“Natalie was referred to me by my sister who was Natalie's kindergarten teacher. Her recommendation was on target. My project was a whole home remodel. The first time she met with me at my house she asked what I wanted, what I wanted the final result to be. Over the course of six months we met several more times, each time the ideas and drawings were updated and modified to reflect both mine and her ideas. During this process Natalie shared valuable advice on what would work or what might be better. She advised me on the possible finishes and which vendors could provide them. Natalie worked well with the contractor, answering questions and giving direction. The results were all that I had hoped. The experience was not stressful but enjoyable. I attribute this to Natalie's talents and her willingness to listen.”
Alicia Ravetto Architect

“My husband and I live in a beautiful location on the Haw River and wanted to remodel part of our home to take advantage of the views and river access. We entertain frequently and wanted more room in the right places and also good flow from room to room. I am an artist, and my husband enjoys woodworking. We wanted spaces that reinforced our aspirations. We decided to add a den with a wood stove, a screened in porch with cat walk to our large back deck, a new kitchen, an art studio, and a workshop. To keep costs down, we hoped to use significant floor space in a poorly-used two car garage. We had some design ideas for the finished product, but mainly, we knew what we wanted to achieve in the way we live in our house and on our property. We looked for an architect with imagination and with good taste who could pull it all together for us. Alicia Ravetto was the perfect choice for our project. She immediately understood what we were after, and she designed spaces that creatively achieved all our criteria. She was very organized in how she handled the developing plans. We could look back and see how we moved from step to step. This was important in constantly bringing us back to the goals we set at the very beginning. Alicia met deadlines and was fun and honest to work with throughout the project. There were significant cost overruns, but this is because we were so happy with what we saw happening, we asked for more and more. We are thrilled with the outcome. It is wonderful living in our "new" custom home.”
