Good post! I'm surprised the article didn't mention anything about not Drywalling and taping yourself though. With the walls being over 90% of what you see in a home. It's one trade that can't be mastered in a weekend nor even gotten decent at. Make sure you hire a professional that cares about the details! It's more than a trade it's an art.

For our kitchen remodel, I’m hiring a general contractor to do all of the above list, plus drywall. We are long time diyers... and we will be doing some of the finish work ourselves, but now in our 60’s, we want to leave the serious work to the professionals (a nod to the comment about physical strength!). We were in our 20’s when we did our first “remodel”. One thing I know with complete certainty, the things you can’t see in a remodel, plumbing, electrical, subfloors etc..., can not only be the most costly, but also the most important. If you get the bones right, you can always upgrade the pretty stuff you see every day later. Spend the money where it counts the most.
