The second project was a total make over of the main bathroom. We could not have asked for better contactors and workers. They designed both projects taking in consideration our wishes, ideas and budget. The work was excellent and it was done rapidly and efficiently. They were very well organized. At the end of the day, they would leave the place clean. Through the renovation, they keep us informed of the progress and the next step to be. “We contracted with Open Concept Home Design in 2012 to design and build a major addition to our modest 1400 sf bungalow. We met with five other design build companies in the area but were most impressed with OCHD. The design process was handled by Niels, the owner, and it was a fun collaborative process that resulted in a floor plan that met all of our wish list with a beautiful exterior that seemlessly integrated the existing structure. Our home was transformed from a cramped little house to a gracious living space with room to entertain large crowds, closets everywhere (!), a beautiful master bedroom and ensuite and a huge kitchen and adjacent dining area. The end result was everything we wanted and more, on time and on budget (they are known for tight cost control).
The building process was extremely well executed with constant oversight by OCHD to ensure that no detail was overlooked. OCHD took care of everything, we only had to make the fun decisions like choosing finishes or paint colours, but even there we were given lots of suggestions when we couldn't decide or were suffering from "decision exhaustion". Yet if we wanted to make changes along the way, those were easily accommodated.
If you are a homeowner contemplating a renovation or new build, you would do well to at least meet with OCHD for a free consult. Reasonable construction costs, excellent design sense, a great client-builder relationship, and most importantly a beautiful final product - your new home! I can honestly say that working with OCHD was a pleasure and one of the best things to happen to our family.

He developed a great design, was thorough in the costing of the work and established good relationships with the subcontractors. The clients loved his concept, design and choice of materials he proposed. The project was for an investment property and the owners realized their design desires were inconsistent with their budget and went in a different direction.

“We found in particular that Moneca was really wonderful at listening to us and to how we use our home and backyard. This was reflected in the ideas she generated for us.
We thought we'd already explored all the possibilities for making our 2 bedroom house work for our family of 4, but Moneca had some great new insight and ideas we hadn't considered for renos, and/or for us to be able to make do without heavy renos. We're still not sure which path we're going to take, but I have to say that for the design aspect, although we'd already talked with about a dozen different design/ build companies in the last three years, Moneca re-imagined our space within an hour of being in our home, in ways no one else nor us had thought about before.
She's also great at 'sourcing' furniture, materials, etc., and afterwards she made us a pinterest board with things she'd pulled together for our backyard, which was really lovely and helpful. And as I'd talked about our porcelain tile floor being too hard of a surface in our living room, she sourced us a lovely and elegant floating cork click tile.”
