Giulietti / Schouten Architects is a Portland-based architecture firm designing unique, client-driven projects throughout the Pacific Northwest and nationally. Founded by Dave Giulietti, AIA in 1987, and joined by partners Tim Schouten in 1993, and Jake Weber in 2013, the firm builds on their 30+ years of experience creating places for people that value the significance of design. Having completed hundreds of residential and light-commercial buildings, the foundation of our success comes from listening to our clients and their goals in order to create beautiful and functional architecture that makes a difference in their lives. Managing a small firm has allowed the principals to maintain close relationships with team members and all design aspects of each project. We look to expand the design horizons of our clients and create unique spaces for their specific needs. We believe that the success of each project is highly dependent on a strong communication between the architect and client. While being best known for our residential and specialized housing projects, we continue to be called upon to design a variety of building types including theaters, schools, religious and church facilities, restaurants, retail, and offices.

Emerick Architects is a Portland-based commercial and residential architecture firm founded in 2000 by principals Melody and Brian Emerick. Our mission is to create locally rooted, environmentally sensitive and thoughtfully crafted spaces, while providing a fun and collaborative experience for our clients throughout the process. From designing and building Portland's first LEED Gold home, to being entrusted to restore Portland's oldest commercial building, we take community and environmental stewardship to heart. We esteem great craftsmanship, believing that an investment in craft is an investment in quality. Preservation, sustainability and artistry are synonymous with our work. Together these ideals help us to energize our communities, protect our resources and enhance our cultural values. At Emerick Architects, we are passionate about collaboration and feel the building process should be enjoyable. Fun might not be what most architecture firms advertise, but we are not like most architecture firms. We invest a lot of time with our clients, getting to know the project, and more importantly, the people involved. Building can be stressful and intimidating, but we strive to make it easier. As leaders and collaborators, we take our job very seriously — but we don't take ourselves too seriously.

Our team of designers pride ourselves on listening closely to our clients and working together to deliver inspiring residences that respond specifically to your lifestyle, the context of your property, and make you and your family feel at home. We understand that each client is unique and has specific wants and needs for their home and deserves a design that responds to their lifestyle. Each project we undertake is custom designed to respond to the characteristics of the site, surrounding context, the client’s program, and budget. We don't come with preconceived ideas, but do bring years of experience as we work with you to find the right solution to your design challenge. We begin the design process by listening and learning from our clients - understanding your goals, your budget, your lifestyle - and then working together to develop a list of required spaces for the new residence. This client centered approach has lead to great success with custom home projects to date, leading to great architecture that responds to context, addresses sustainability, and satisfies the client's needs. Our Custom Home design specialties include: > Modern and Contemporary styles > Luxury amenities > Inspiring interiors > Strong connection between the architecture and surrounding landscape > High performance "sustainable" design strategies > Designing for Aging-in-place, ADA Accessibility, and Barrier Free Design > Close attention to materiality > Healthy indoor environments As we embark on a journey of discovery with our clients, we challenge preconceived ideas, and offer a range of concepts for the new house. Together we discuss these options and iterate as we mold the design to respond to your taste and how you envision living in the new home. This process includes many discussions as we get to know you and craft a project that is architecturally inspiring, blending beauty and function. It is also important to note that although we are proudly based in Portland, Oregon we have undertaken projects across the United States and abroad. If you are looking for a new primary residence, a wonderful vacation property, or second home to retire in, we would love to work with you.

Clients come to me for a variety of reasons - more space, better circulation, improved functionality, more comfort, and for style that better suits their taste. The houses and buildings I work on vary widely in scope and budget and span a range of styles, from early 20th century to contemporary modern. Some projects are from the ground up; others are remodels, additions, or a combination of the two. My goal is to make my clients happy and to finish with beautiful, functional spaces completed within their budgets. I bring a fresh perspective to each assignment and aim for a holistic understanding of the conditions and client needs. I also work towards collaborative relationships with all those involved. The results are a unique reflection of the lifestyle and personal taste of the individuals who hire me. My background includes fifteen years in commercial architecture followed by fifteen years in my own practice as a residential architect and interior designer. Most of my work is through client referrals. Many homeowners return to me for new projects. The process begins with an on-site meeting with potential clients, an opportunity for me to introduce myself and determine the direction and scope of work. Afterwards, I draw up a fee proposal specific to the project. Once the fee proposal is accepted, the client and I work out a project schedule and begin. Interested? Feel free to contact me to discuss your project!
