“Description Of Work: Installed new hardwood floors in the dining room and study, new stairs (treads and risers) to the second floor and new wood in the upstairs hall. They sanded the existing hardwood down to the original wood and stained and finished both existing wood and the new wood so it appears as though all the wood was installed at the same time. The job went very well, indeed despite some inherent challenges that the project entailed. One of the main obstacles was blending the new hardwood flooring with existing hardwood in the foyer and kitchen area. This involved cutting out some of the existing flooring and staggering the new wood so the seams would not show and it would look like all the hardwood was installed at the same time. They also had to compensate for a poor job done by another company by installing new and much better looking and fitting wood thresh holds leading to the laundry room and the upstairs bath. The existing hardwood floors were in poor shape due to age and excessive usage so after all the new wood and stairs were installed the entire wood floor was sanded down to the original wood, stained and finished with several coats of scratch resistant poly. Note: to help us decide on a stain color they actually rolled out three different stains on the floor so it was relatively easy for us to make that all important color decision. Once the stains dried back they were sanded off and the floor was readied for the stain application process. In addition to the work outlined above IC Custom installed all new quarter round trim throughout the work area, pulled up a portion of the subfloor that was badly damaged and replaced it with new subfloor material. Likewise, stair carpeting and carpeting in the upstairs hall were also removed and carted away. After the job was complete and upon close examination we realized that the installation of one tread did not meet our expectations. All it took is one call to IC Custom and they had a man to our house the next day where he set about and fixed the problem to our complete satisfaction. Also worth mentioning was the care the team exhibited in sealing off our rooms to minimize dust and dirt transfer from the work area to other parts of the home. “Lyle and his crew did an amazing, amazing, amazing job on our HW floors!!! My wife and I recently moved into a home in Frankfort, IL that was built in 1987, and the original hardwood floors had never been re-finished. We had deep traffic patterns, dog scrapes, water marks, dark patches, discoloration- in short-it just looked pretty ratty through most of the house. Lyle met with us and described the advantages of the Swedish refinishing method and how durable and long-lasting it is compared to poly/oil. We really wanted something that would wear well as we have four small kids, and they are tough on wood floors- so we liked the idea of the Swedish method. However, we were thinking that this method might cost a lot more than traditional poly or oil, so we didn't know if we would would go that route. After our initial consult, Lyle came back with an estimate that was very reasonable. We were thrilled that we could now get S&W on the job because of the four contractors we consulted with, Lyle was the most knowledgeable and passionate the process. Also, his insights on what color/finish we might want to go with were extremely valuable. Fast forward to the job--- Lyle and his crew arrived on time, they were enthusiastic and courteous, they were helpful in moving a wee bit of furniture, and they got right to work. It was impressive to watch them work as well. These guys are obviously true craftsman/floor mechanics. The finished floors are gorgeous! They look better than brand new! My wife says she could, "just sit in a chair and stare at them." : ) Lyle's custom color mix is perfect and the satin/semi-gloss sheen on the floors is just right.
