“We hired Merit Landworks to do the landscaping for our new home and we are so happy we made that decision. Merit truly created a work of art with our landscaping. Everything they did is stunning and at the same time natural and blends well with the surrounding land. They created many special areas with lighting and spectacular plant specimens. We really feel lucky that we found Merit here on Houzz!”
Advant-Edge Decorative Curbing & Landscaping Inc

“A year after moving into my new Glendale home I had yet to address my 1200 sq. ft. dirt backyard. This gave me a chance to watch how rainfall was designed to drain across the backyard, resulting in pools of mud that never seemed to dry. Hand-watering my tree and shrubs resulted in more mess. I needed help in gaining control over my yard! Much research led me to Advant-Edge, a local family-owned business with a “Hardscaping and Irrigation Systems” license. The owner, David Bell, came over to my house in early January to scope out the yard, listen to my vision, and watch videos of rainwater drainage issues. David proposed burying a 6” pipe across my yard to better direct the drainage. He also proposed burying a drip irrigation system (to water all of my plants) and tying it in to my existing Hunter system used for the front yard. Finally, we discussed the advantages of using pavers, artificial turf, and rocks to give me a low-maintenance, well-drained yard. I was impressed that the Belgard paver company had awarded a “Master Craftsman” certification to Advant-Edge! Later that day, with measurements and product preferences in hand, David sent me a contract to review. His contract is lengthy and all-inclusive. I read it and sent a list of questions to better understand his recommendations and the workflow. He took the time to respond to each question. I signed the contract with no concerns, because: 1) David is smart, and kind, and is proud of his well-regarded local business; 2) David trains AND retains his crew, who know what they are doing without constant oversight; 3) David did not try to “upsell” to costlier products that I did not want or need; and, 4) David takes on projects of all sizes, and I sensed that he would not minimize my smaller project. Then I sat back and waited my turn in the queue. (This is important to understand: because of all of the above factors, Advant-Edge juggles numerous projects at once (just as a home builder does). David does not over-promise, nor does he hire a bunch of temporary, minimally trained workers who would prioritize speed over quality. Further, each time it rains, all projects are moved back, because the ground needs to be dry to do much of the work – this is spelled out in the contract.) Once the project started in early March and materials were delivered, the workers maximized every dry day, from 7:00 am to 3:30 pm. And, boy did they work! They carted tons of material (rocks and pavers and pipes) from the driveway to the backyard. I never heard them complain – they just worked. The crews swept the driveway and picked up trash before they left every day. The final walk-through was on March 31. I sent a list of questions the night before, and each was answered. There were no lingering issues that needed attention or repairs. The plantings were already being nourished by the irrigation system. The final cost equaled the contract cost. I was (and am) so happy with the final product and look forward to enjoying my new backyard! David takes care of his customers, employees and his community. As Covid-19 became a growing threat to his community, he organized and held a mammoth giveaway of food, cleaning and paper supplies at his Peoria warehouse. He has shared lists of local businesses that need our business. He even asked me if I needed him to pick up anything from the grocery store while he was there. Support your local businesses!”
