Example of a transitional family room design in Denver

We designed a custom hutch which has a multitude of storage options and functionality – open display shelves, roll-outs, drawers, extra counter/serving space, as well as a beverage fridge and appliance garage/coffee center. On the opposite side of the kitchen, we replaced a small pantry closet with a furniture style built-in that took advantage of underutilized space. Anticipating issues with supply chain, we opted to use a local cabinet maker on this project which allowed us to fully customize the cabinets for optimal functionality.

The owners’ brief was to keep all the rooms and have thematic designs for the different spaces i.e. Peranakan style for the common area and 3 distinct themes for the bedrooms based on their favourite places of travel (i.e. Santorini, Japan and the Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar. For the master bedroom and bath, the design focused on re-creating the vacation accommodation which the clients’ stayed in during their trip and retained its iconic blue and white hues.

The dramatic powder bath provides a sophisticated spot for guests. Geometric black and white floor tile and a dramatic apron countertop provide contrast against the white floating vanity. Black and gold accents tie the space together and a fuchsia bouquet of flowers adds a punch of color.

This bedroom is simple and light. The large window brings in a lot of natural light. The modern four-poster bed feels just perfect for the space.

Rather than starting with an outcome in mind, this 1,400 square foot residence began from a polemic place - exploring shared conviction regarding the concentrated power of living with a smaller footprint. From the gabled silhouette to passive ventilation, the home captures the nostalgia for the past with the sustainable practices of the future. While the exterior materials contrast a calm, minimal palette with the sleek lines of the gabled silhouette, the interior spaces embody a playful, artistic spirit. This kitchen was designed with all custom cabinetry with the lower cabinets finished in Sherwin Williams Iron Ore and the upper cabinets finished in Sherwin Williams Origami. The quartzite countertops carry up the backsplash at the back. The gold faucet and fixtures add a bit of warmth to the cooler colors of the kitchen.
