“We used Jay Funkhauser to completely remodel two bathroooms and a kitchen and were so satisfied with his work that we hired him to install a finished attic and full bath the following year (2013). The things we like about him are (1) he comes up with creative, yet practical solutions to difficult design challenges (2) he is a good listener (3) he likes to do things the right way rather than cut corners (3) he communicates daily during the course of demolition and construction (4) for the most part, he hires very well qualified tradesman who are polite and respectful and (5) his pricing is reasonable, but not the lowest (see #3). For both the kitchen and the attic, he identified weaknesses in structural support members and took the time to reinforce floor joists and vertical support members. At the beginning of the first job, he asked us about the potential scope of all of the home renovation projects we had in mind. After each demolition phase, he installed extra piping and wiring in anticipation of future projects, which saved us a lot of money in the long run. His finished rooms are both beautiful and functional. His experience with granite helped us choose a tasteful blend of different stones which complement the surroundings. He was very helpful with picking out lighting fixtures and decorative hardware, but he always let us have the final decision. He has a good eye for color and style; he wasn't satisfied with the paint color we originally chose for a bathroom and, on his own, returned to the paint store twice to modify the color before he got what he wanted. As soon as we saw the final color, we know it was perfect. This is one of many such stories that illustrate his attention to detail and the pride he takes in a job well done.”

“SCS Building & Remodeling was hired to remodel our kitchen some 10 years ago and did an amazing job. Due to the quality of Brent's work we referred to others who also hired him. This past year, we hired Brent and his crew to install new windows. The window labor came in under what Brent had bid so we showed him some drywall work that we needed done and 4 trips later the drywall was repaired at no additional cost. SCS Building & Remodeling is always our first choice when hiring work to be done in our home. Trustworthy, professional, honest, and friendly!!”

“Our boat house back wall was caving in. We hired Washa Construction to replace the wooden wall with concrete block. Since the driveway is quite a distance from the lake, there was a lot of manual work hauling dirt from the boat house to the dumpster and concrete block and cement to the boat house. They also had to build temporary walls to support the roof during the construction project. The guys did this during the hotest part of the summer. The job turned out great! We've used Washa Contruction before and have been very satisfied with the professionalism and craftsmanship of the workers. We'd highly recommend them.”

“We worked with Renz construction on a couple of projects for our Lake House. They did a fantastic job with a partial kitchen re-do, and our fabulous new deck facing the lake. They created a waterproof space below the deck so we could incorporate a ceiling fan, can lights, and outdoor sound system. It is our favorite place to relax with a drink and watch the incredible sunsets.”

“My husband and I purchased a very outdated condo in Madison last year. We had reached out to several area contractors for quotes on a complete renovation. Pat Whitty of Whitty and Sons Construction was by far the most personable and professional out of those we met with. We quickly received a clear and comprehensive quote from him. Approximately one week later, we asked to modify the quote so it could better meet our modest budget. We met in person and he ensured that he understood all of our expectations. During the project, Pat demonstrated top-notch construction skills and professionalism. He helped us make material choices that would allow us to stay on our budget while not taking away from our visual or functional goals. He subcontracts some work to other local specialists. We also found that they exceeded our expectations. It's challenging to find a good contractor, and Pat is highly skilled, not only in the trade of construction, but in communication, budgeting, and project management. “We live in Waunakee and wanted to have a brick patio installed to replace our 25 year old original concrete slab in the back of our house. Russ and Garrett came to our house and gave use great recommendations on how to maximize our space for dining and a fire pit. They came up with a custom design that flows with the house and is unique! What most impressed us was the quality of the construction. They dug a deep base, filled and compacted the stone and sand so it was dead solid. We have had the patio for two full years and not a brick has shifted! They also did a great job with the landscaping and finishing of the job, repairing the grass in the yard, mulching and planting perennials so the deck is virtually maintenance free. We would highly recommend Birrenkott construction for any home improvement project!”
